Roaming profiles and USRMGR.EXE

workstation, his roaming profile is stored under

Currently, I'm experimenting with the User Manager for Domains
(USRMGR.EXE) from Microsoft to evaluate how good this tool is for
administrating a Samba PDC. Concerning the type of roaming profiles
described above I have some problems with USRMGR.EXE:

USRMGR, groups, and ldap
I currently have samba version 3.0.23 installed using ldap as the
backend. I am experiencing the same problems as Holger Wesser mentioned
in his posting "USRMGR.exe not working properly". However, it appears
that the fix of creating the group mappings does not work. They appear
to be mapped correctly on my setup. My net groupmap list is:
Domain Admins (S-1-5-21-1882045844-2771900506-1057560041-512) -> Domain

Acces denied with usrmgr.exe
Hi
I am trying to use usrmgr.exe in order to manage users and groups on my samba server PDC (passdb backend = tdbsam ) .
I have the following strange behavior of usrmgr.exe :
* when I launch usrmgr.exe from a user account that is part of the Domain Admins group or that explicitly has the
SeAddUsersPrivilege privilege, I can...

srvtools (Usrmgr.exe) : strange problem
Hello everybody. I have noted a strange problem when using Usrmgr.exe
(from srvtools). The problem arise when a net groupmap is done on a
group for which a user exist with the same name that the specified
unixgroup. For example, lets say that I have the following UNIX user and
group create on my Samba server :
joe (in /etc/group)
joe (in /etc/passwd)
Now I...

USRMGR group problems
I'm having some odd problems with USRMGR and Samba group accounts.
USRMGR seems to work fine for user accounts, and it also correctly
displays the list of group objects (these are all stored in LDAP btw).
This can be seen in http://www.ehsco.com/misc/samba/umgr-main.gif
Two of the groups can be managed while the other two cannot. For ex...

Samba 3.0, Windows 2k/XP and usrmgr.exe
Hi there
I've just finished setting my first Samba PDC for 120ish users and so far so
good, although its only been live for 2 days!!
One problem I've come across (actually I had loads but the HOW-TO, Samba
archive and google solved most of them) is with usrmgr. There is one XP
client that I have installed the NT 4 Server Tools software on for the
school IT coordinator (note the phrase 'coordinator', not exactly a guru or
sysadmin) to use to tidy up user names, passwords etc. We are both set up
as Domain Admins and have our primary LINUX GID set...

Adding users with usrmgr/smbldap-useradd
Samba 3.0.23d, on Debian Sarge - using the samba.org packages
smbldap-tools 0.9.2
Greetings all,
I am trying to set up a new PDC using LDAP, etc.
Adding/deleting/modifying users in LDAP works fine using phpldapadmin.
These users also work just fine logging in/out.
I am trying to get the usrmgr tool to also work, so im working on the
scripts on the server.
I am getting this error however when I use smbldap-useradd:
Can't call method "get_value" on an undefined value at ./smbldap-useradd
line 197, <DATA> line 283.
The line in the file contains the following code:

Reloading in usrmgr.exe
usrmgr.exe administration works for me.
However, sometimes it is necessary to reopen the domain up to couple
of times until the administration starts working.
Allegedly also it's not necessary to press F5-reload after adding
an user on Windows NT. However didn't test it, never used Windows NT

usrmgr keeps user in domain admins group / bug ?
Hi everybody,
i have discovered following problem.
System suse 9.2 pdc samba 3.0.20b ldap.
a system user which was in the group Domain Admins ( as secondary group
of course ) , cannot be removed from the group, by usrmgr ( in real ldap
the user gets deleted ! )
If the user account gets deleted completly and recreated it is shown
again in the domain admins group.( which isnt so in ldap )
This seems to me as bug with usrmgr, which seem not to forget having a
user in Domain Admins Group. ( guessing about some cachi...

Making unix system accounts invisible in USRMGR.EXE
I have a Samba (3.0.22) server (working on Ubuntu 6.06.1) acting as NT
PDC. My passdb backend is tdbsam.
I'm using USRMGR.EXE from Microsoft for user account administration. In
USRMGR.EXE I see all accounts, unfortunately also Ubuntu's system
accounts (like proxy, sync, sshd etc.). Is there any way to make them
invisible for USRMGR.EXE?
Cheers

USRMGR Not adding users properly
I'm having problems adding users with usrmgr. I can run the scripts
from my smb.conf fine from command line and do what I need to. But,
when adding users with usrmgr, the login script and path statements are
not identified and I have to go in and edit them manually. Does adding
a user with usrmgr not use the add user script from Samba?...

Samba3beta3 + PDC + LDAP + UsrMgr.exe prob
Heya all,
So I've finally got a machine on this Samba 3 domain. Yey. Its an XP Pro
box, so I grabbed the UsrMgr.exe and SrvMgr.exe programs from Microsoft,
and hoped to at least use UsrMgr to see lists of users, maybe even as a
full User manager, since I can't find a decent one that does all the samba3
stuff.
Anyway, I'm on the domain, and I run the UsrMgr.exe program and I get an
error message:

to this [global] group failed..
I do this as yaya that has policy rights for everything, like "Domain
Admins" has, and when I do it as root, it still doesn't work.
Here's some infos:

Re: USRMGR, groups, and ldap
...hat my OpenLDAP Samba (samba.schema) in /etc/ldap/schema was
out of date; I have now replaced it with the latest version from the
Samba source (3.0.23d).
The correct number of domain groups are now reported with 'net rpc info'
and the groups are visible from the Windows XP dialog boxes and USRMGR.
Regards,
Jon

error in using usrmgr.exe
Hello:
I have set up samba PDC using samba 3.0.11. When I use
the usrmgr.exe tool on NT4 machine to add user to the
domain, it prompts and says: "The following error
occurred changeing properties of the user mary: fail
find the group" (The error msg actually appears as
Chinese in my computer, I just translate the error
message).
Then I check with the samba lo...

I have a problem when using samba together with usrmgr. When adding a
global group I get an error message. The group is still created. You
can't see before you refresh but that's a minor detail.

USRMGR.EXE doesn't work anymore.
I've upgraded my system at Samba 3.0.20 (SLES 8) bacause of some errors
on winbind and Windows 2003.
Now, usrmgr.exe doesn't work anymore.
It reports: ?procedure number is out of range - Do you want to
administrate another domain??
USRMGR has been working for 3 years; I've made all upgrades on Windows
2000, but the results it's the same.
Any Idea?

win2k usrmgr.exe returns "remote procedure call failed"

password back end. There are approx 20 users. It also serves dhcp, ntp,
mysql and apache.
WHAT I WANT:
I want to have a person at the client's site able to log on as root and
use the srvtools in win2k to manage the groups and users. In other
words, they need to be able to use usrmgr.exe to manage the users and
groups of the domain from one of the win2k workstations.
WHAT THE ERROR MESSAGE SAYS:
if I double click on on a user, a standard windows error dialogue comes up
