Samba update to 4.2.14 (SERNET) breaks LDAP access
Last night we updated out Samba-4 AD server to version 4.2.14 usng the SERNEt packages, running on SLES 12. We have a number of services (mail services, MANTIS, etc) that access the server via the LDAP interface and in all cases we discovered that none of them where able to establish a successful LDAP connection after the upgrade.   Previously we used plain LDAP...

Standard errors from predict.gam versus predict.lm
...mooths for each term. The gam clearly fits far better than the lm model based on AIC (difference in AIC ~ 8), in addition the adjusted R squared for the gam is clearly better. I then want to make some plots of predicted values from both models with confidence intervals. So I can get my predictions usng predict(my.model(....se.fit=TRUE)) My problem is that this results in the prediction se's (and consequent CI's for the mean prediction) being much wider for the gam than for the linear model. This seems rather counter-intuitive given that the gam appears to fit better, and hence I will fin...

Using Standard Integration Tests with RSpec
Hi there. I am using RSpec for unit and functional testing on a project. I have however found the (experimental) RSpec stories to be un-intuitive in some situations. The RSpec plugins seems to disable the standard Rails Tests, so how could I go about usng Integration tests alongside Rspec? If you're only usng domain <disk>s which directly reference gluster/iscsi/etc, you don't need the storage pool APIs. Always check the release notes for new versions - including the ones you're skipping. This one contains the information you're looking for: https://www.samba.org/samba/history/samba-4.2.10.html And here in less technical words: :-) https://wiki.s...

migrate existing Unix password to sambapassword
Hello -- Our existing Unix system has more than 500 users. The system currently uses OpenLDAP to authenticate users. We just added dozens of PCs running Windows to the network. We are going to set up the existing Unix server as a samba PDC server such that the users can log onto either their Unix account or Windows account. It seems a good idea to allow the users have the same password for

Dovecot 1.2.12+Postfix+Active Directory: virtual domain name dropped.
...ogin to the Active Directory domain controller. The client has multiple Internet domains, but all users are in the same Active Directory realm internally. With the help of the how-tos at linuxmail.info, I got the system to the point of being able to authenticate logins for both IMAP and SMTP (usng dovecot-SASL). I tried using PAM first, but it didn't work: running kinit from the command line takes over 90 seconds to get a ticket, and Dovecot timed out after 60 on every login attempt. So I switched to LDAP. Note: I still don't understand why, but authentication through Acti...

Question about optimal filesystem with many small files.
Hi, I have a program that writes lots of files to a directory tree (around 15 Million fo files), and a node can have up to 400000 files (and I don't have any way to split this ammount in smaller ones). As the number of files grows, my application gets slower and slower (the app is works something like a cache for another app and I can't redesign the way it distributes files into disk due
