studied easily. It is similar to netcat except instead of "shell
shoveling" data through a raw TCP connection, it wraps data in XML and

rsync (or rsync-like tool) provides local metadata cache ?
Let's say I have a slow, or high latency (or both) link between two hosts, and transferring data is expensive.
Is it possible with rsync (or any other tool like rsync) to maintain a local metadata cache, such that I can rsync without transferring data to and from the hosts about what files are already in place ?
That is, I already "know" what is out there and don't need to

dovecot-auth (1.0rc24) on Solaris seems broken.
I've trying to get dovecot-auth to talk to exim and have been running
debugging on both sides.
I've added the line:
i_info("auth_client_input: client disconnected: %s", strerror(errno));
just after the "case -1" in the first switch statement in:
auth-client-connection.c: auth_client_input()
and get this in the logs:
dovecot: Feb 27 13:35:09 Info: auth(default):

Wiki needs updating: Dovecot LDA + Dovecot Sieve + Exim
So as to make sure that Dovecot Sieve's vacation system works Exim has to be
forced to generate a "Reply-To:" header in the message (which it doesn't do
by default). The current example for using the Dovecot LDA with Exim doesn't
do this.
Here is a replacement example for the local_delivery transport:-

ZFS but how?
Hi,
I''m still debating wether I should use ZFS or not and how. Here is my
scenario.
I want to run a server with a lot of storage, that gets disks
added/upgraded from time to time to expand space. I''d want to store
large files on it, 15mb - 5gb per file, and they''d only need to be
accessible via NFS/FTP and maybe CIFS. The machine I have dedicated for
this job would be

Audio filters (was: feature - VM gain adjust?)

any other VoIP system, as far as I know):
- voice disguise/modulation. Think about how many customers you'd
get with a module that sounds like they're Mickey Mouse. You think:
'That's really stupid!' but then look at how many people pay for
Usher ringtones. Look at how many crazy truckers buy CB microphones
with reverb.
- voice stress analysis. If you're dumping the audio through a
filter, there's no reason you can't simply extract data from it
instead of alter the audio path. A one-way background audio carrier

Hmm, yes, let?s hold public committee hearings for every technical change. The resulting bureaucratic mire will surely usher in the Year of Linux!

What secret motive *could* there be?? The current security policy is weak, and this change fixes that. End of story.

Seriously? I mean, you actually believe that if RHEL sat still, right where it is now, never changing any ABIs, that it would finally usher in the Glorious Year of Linux? That?s all we have to do?

HTML snapshots for crawlable ajax
Hi,
There doesn''t seem to be any reference for taking HTML snapshots from
within a Rails server. I wonder how one could implement Google''s
crawlable AJAX spec
(http://code.google.com/web/ajaxcrawling/docs/learn-more.html)on a Rails
application?
To summarize: I have a Rails application with a Javascript front-end
with lots of AJAX. I need Google to index the AJAX content, hence

Yes, they can add without changing/breaking interfaces that people use
or commands they already know. The reason people use RHEL at all is
because they do a pretty good job of that within the life of a major
version. How can you possib...

Domain Member Server problems
Hi all,
I'm not having any success adding samba (3.0.28 on Solaris 10) to a Windows
AD server (2003 R2) per the instructions here: (In addition to much
googling)

The error is:
