Question about mount.cifs and smbclient

The user has a field in ActiveDirectory: `userWorkstations: $NETBIOSNAME1,$NETBIOSNAME2'. The RHEL5.3 machine is joined to the doimain with `net ads join'. The machine's netbiosname is $NETBIOSNAME2. The interesting thing is that smbclient can connect to the host: # smbclient -W $DOMAIN -U $USER \\\\$SERVER\\vobstg $PASSWORD Domain=[$DOMAIN]...

PDC + LDAP
I'm trying to set up my LDAP in preparation to configure my Samba PDC. In the Official Samba-3 HOWTO and Reference Guide it give instructions on howto setup slapd.conf (section 10.4.4.3) After modifying the file it instructs to run /sbin/splapindex -f /splapd.conf When I run this I get the following error: /etc/openldap/schema/samba.schema: line 423: AttributeType not found:

Authorizing login per station
Hi, We're using Samba 2.2.2 as a PDC for W2k and XP clients. We have two types of users - "regular" users and "management". The problem I have is to allow only the "management" users to login from certain stations, and deny the login rights to regular users. That is, I need the ability do set per-station login permissions. Is there a way to do this using samba

Novell EDirectory as LDAP backend
Hi, is anybody out there who is using Novell Edir. with samba? I have searched the archive and found some random notes but no real success story. Here is what I have achived so far. Maybe someone can give me some hints. I have tried the samba-nds.schema that comes with the 2.2.7a tar ball. While I was able to import/add it to EDir. it did not work for me, because the "lmPassword"

NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION and SAM.workstation-restrictions
...noying NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION error-messages, caused by user specific workstation-restrictions that prevent users from attaching shares on that domain-member server (2.2.8a with winbind). is there any workaround except for adding my samba-domain-member netbios-name to each user's "userWorkstations"-list in ads? is password-validation via smbd/winbindd recognized as a user logon at the domain controller or what else causes the domain controller to send NT_STATUS_INVALID_WORKSTATION? any hint is greatly appreciated. thanks, guenther -- Guenther Deschner...
