"valid userse = @anyGroup" breaks samba
Hello,
first of all, thanks to everyone who has responded to my questions lately. All
pointers are as always much appreciated.
That said, I have now narrowed down (and solved, sort of) the problem with the
mysterious "freeze effect"[1] I've been posting about. To put it in short
terms:
X = original smb.conf that's worked fine for a long time up until a power

setting access rights for shares not working for groups
Hi list,
i have a really strange problem with samba3
i have my useres, groups and machines in a ldap backend.

with getent passwd and getent gorups i see all users and groups.
The usermanager on windows-machines also sees the groups and knows which user
is in wich group, so this part seems to be working.

ldappasswd, smbldap-passwd, etc.) obey account policy, which I set using
pdbedit (and works fine when I try to change password from Windows, but
not using those utilities) without knowing old password? I need reset

smbpasswd - obeys account policy when run as non root, but I need to
know old password; as root it bypasses smbd afaik, so no policy (?)...
ldappasswd -x -S -W -D "admin dn" "user dn" - does not change

it's not
Yes I try making corrections and this probably
accounts for the confusion and broken samba
communication. I just never seem to be able to come
up with a working working configuration.
Exception: smbclient; I can mount the XP share in a
directory on my Linux box or at least the last time I
checked.
I have to turn off the
