Is this correct?
Dear userR, With the following results, are they correct or acceptable? > x <- c(1.4, 1.2, 2.8) > sum(x) [1] 5.4 > sum(x) == 5.4 [1] FALSE > (1.4 + 1.2 + 2.8) - 5.4 [1] -8.881784e-16 > (1.4 + 1.2) - 2.6 [1] -4.440892e-16 > 2.6 - 1.5 - 1.1 [1] 0 > version _ platform i386-pc-mingw32 arch i386 os mingw32 system i386, mingw32 status major 2 minor

Standard errors GLM
Dear userRs, when applied the summary function to a glm fit (e.g Poisson) the parameter table provides the categorical variables assuming that the first level estimate (in alphabetical order) is 0. What is the standard error for that variable then? Are the standard errors calculated assuming a normal distribution? Many thanks, -- View this message in context:

how to put barchart and line chart in the same plot in ggplot2
dear userR: I am trying to plot two dependent variables in the same plot in ggplot2. because these two variables have very different magnitude, I have to use a second Y axis. I hope one variable to be line and the other to be barchart. The x axis is continuous. Yet since I have to make barchart, I guess I have to treat it as discrete or categorical. I have been google searching for the whole

inverser terrain.colors
Dear UserRs, I draw filled contour plot with filled.contour function. By default, colors of filled.contour is terrain.colors which alters from green (the lowest level) to white (the highest level). I want the colors to alter from white (the lowest level) to green (the highest level). How can I set this color levels? Thanks in advance.

Availability of quadplot3d package (UseR!2006 Four Dimensional Barycentric Plots in 3D)
Dear List, I have been unable fo find the package quadplot3d referred in the Abstract/Presentation "Four Dimensional Barycentric Plot in 3D" presented in the UserR!2006. Does anyone know if it is available ? And if so, if it is ported to Windows ? Thanks in anticipation, Carlos Ortega [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Passing a missing argument
Dear userRs, Is there a way to explicitly set an argument to a function call as missing? E.g., histogram(foo, bar, endpoints=ifelse(!missing(limits),limits,NA/NULL/whatever))) In this call I want to set a value to the endpoints argument only if the `limits' variable has been set, and leave the defaults otherwise. The only way I could do it is thus: if

ggplot2 - expand range?
Dear UserRs, I am trying to use systematically ggplot2 for most of my plots, but I am fighting some lack of documentation, which I try to overcome. I want to build a scatterplot where the axes cross exactly at (0,0). I tried using scale_y_continuous(limits=c(0,10)), but I always get an extra space at the bottom of the axes. The code I used is below. > plotdata<-data.frame(x=1:10,

Converting strings with internal delimiters into lists
Hi UserRs, I know that there has to be an easy way to do this in R (probably easy enough that once someone clues me in I'll smack myself on the forehead for not figuring it out myself), but my searches on my own have not yielded any hints. I have many fields in my dataset that participants entered as "free lists" - i.e., the field constitutes a varying number of names each

Proposal: 'global' package refactoring
Looking over the contents of various packages, including my own, it is clear that lots of things end up 'hidden away' in packages where they don't belong. My gregmisc package is a particularly egregious example, containing something from almost every functional category. I propose that from time to time the R community go through the complete set of packages and 'refactor'

GLM and Neg. Binomial models
Hi userRs! I am trying to fit some GLM-poisson and neg.binomial. The neg. Binomial model is to account for over-dispersion. When I fit the poisson model i get: (Dispersion parameter for poisson family taken to be 1) However, if I estimate the dispersion coefficient by means of: sum(residuals(fit,type="pearson")^2)/fit$df.res I obtained 2.4. This is theory means over-dispersion since

Evaluation "conflict" in combination of replicate() and rexp()as variable inside a function
Dear userRs, "playing around" with combinations of replicate() and random number generating functions inside a self-defined "wrapper" function I encounterd a puzzling behaviour. The following are intentionally simple (and rather nonsense-) examples to isolate the relevant aspects. Please, note the seemingly "inconsistent" behaviour for the second call of

options("quit.with.no.save"), and Windows installer changes
I've just committed a couple of changes to R-devel related to requests at userR about the Windows installer. The first of these affects all platforms, but I've only tested it on Windows: I added an option "quit.with.no.save". If TRUE, then the default q("ask") prompt will not offer to save the workspace. This is in response to the observation that new users who

RADIUS
Hi, I?m trying to figure out how to practically use RADIUS to authenticate users. So far, I have only found documentation explaining that the idea is that users somehow magically need to authenticate against a RADIUS server via a device like a switch or a wireless access point before they are given or being denied access to a network. I understand that I have to refer to the documentation of

Trusted domain users unwantedly mapping onto local domain users
Having set up two way trust between a Samba domain (with LDAP backend) and an AD domain, I find that 1. Users from the trusted domain are authenticated against the proper DC (that is, their regular password works), but only if there is a corresponding local domain user. 2. Users from the trusted domain are being mapped onto Samba/POSIX users associated with the local Samba domain, despite

RADIUS
Hi, Radius is a AAA protocol (Authorization, Aurhentication and Accounting) you can use rhe three methods or only one of them. Authentication can be done by usong a Freeradius Server, aitvorization will give a userr profile with certain privileges for example In a network connection, and accounting (user connection details) can be registered In a MySQL database if needed. New package: simstudy
Greetings ? A new package ?simstudy? is now available on CRAN. What started as a small number of functions that enabled me to quickly generate simple data sets for teaching and power/sample size calculations has grown into a more robust set of tools that allows users to simulate more complex data sets in order to explore modeling techniques or better understand data generating processes. Major update to package relimpo: Version 2.0
Dear userRs, Version 2.0 of package relaimpo is on CRAN (and on my homepage with an additional metric for non-US users). It contains several major improvements: - usage of factors - incorporation of interactions (for metric lmg only) - incorporation of observation weights - application to data from complex surveys - processing of multiply imputed data The latter two points are somewhat
