USERMGR 'A device attached to the system is not functioning'
Hey everyone, I've got a Samba server running with an LDAP backend, and for the most part it works great. The only issue I'm having is that when I attempt to use USERMGR.exe on the windows side I get this (typical Microsoft) error: "A device attached to the system is not functioning" I'm running Samba 3.4.5, and OpenLDAP 2.4.21 on FreeBSD 8.0 Here's the relevant config files: smb.conf -> http://pastebin.com/VSUXFDst slapd.conf -> http://p...

Problem managing user accounts by usermgr
Hi, I'm using samba 3.0.2 PDC with LDAP backend. I'd like to be able to manage user accounts by Microsoft's usrmgr tool (from srvtools package). In my smb.conf are configured functional IDEALX scripts. Additionally I added debug output to start of all scripts which prints current time and parameters of script. When I use usrmgr.exe for creating a new user account I get strange error

[PATCH] 3.0.20, usermgr.exe, and setting group information
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Patch URL: http://samba.org/~jerry/patches/usrmgr_groups_v1.patch This one fixes issues when setting group information via usrmgr.exe and 'passdb backend = ldapsam'. The symptom in the logs is the dreaded "smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root.." error. Also refer to https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3047

Groups not listed in USERMGR.EXE
Dear list, I'm using samba 3.0.2a on a RedHat Linux server. Samba is configured as being a PDC. When I use the usermanager from SRVTOOLS.EXE on my W2K workstation I don't see any groups listed in the window below the userlist. Also when I look at the properties of on of the user (who is member of more than one group) I only see that a primary group is assigned, the one in /etc/passwd. The

User Management / Samba 3.0.1 LDAP / USERMGR.EXE problems
Hello, I'm using Samba 3.0.1 with LDAP backend running as a PDC here. When I start up usrmgr.exe from Windows NT, it will read all the users (or computers, for srvmgr.exe) in the domain and report them back correctly. However, whomever I am logged in as ( including gid 512 users) it will not let me see details or change anything. In the logs after trying to view a users details I will

Password Aging/Expiration in Samba 3?
Is password aging/expiration a functional feature in Samba 3? I have compiled and installed the alpha 12 release and while I can set password aging in the account policies via NT's account manager, Samba 3 does not seem to be honoring it. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Problem with sambaMunged Dial
I've had a problem since I had installed samba with ldap support. It's impossible deleting and managing [ex.: add user to a group] the user; only with smbldap-tools. When I try to manage new user with usermgr.exe, who's added the log tell me: ldapsam_update_sam_account: failed to modify user with uid = foo, error: sambaMungedDial: value #0 invalid per syntax (Success) Trying with smbldap-tools: # smbldap-useradd -a blablabla... and before manage it with usermgr. exe: it's working, but I n...

Mapping My Documents
I'm creating roaming profiles for the Win98 boxes in our network. User Manager Tools
I loaded the NT4 Domain Manager tools and tried to use UserMgr to add some users. The add users sections of the menu are grayed out and I cannot do the deed. I've tried a variety of things. The machine was a member of the domain, I was logged in a administrator, which seemed to map as root in Samba, but still all I could do is look, not touch. Any...

problem with groups when adding windows workstation to domain
...D almost like the Domain admins (mapped to Wheel) has actually been added. The SID differs in its last numbers - I have SID ending in "1000", added to local Administrators ends in "512". Where should I look more carefully? My other problem is with managing users with SRVTools - usermgr. When I add a new user I get the following message: This security ID may not be assigned as the primary group of an object Managing users (setting passwords, profile location, etc.) works fine, as works adding new machines to the domain. Thanks in advance, Ivo Karabojkov

Help with user/domain Management fm Windows side
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Back-end is LDAP. What are some good techniques for Domain management from the windows side? I've got usermgr.exe and svrmgr.exe but: 1. Initializing a Samba3 ldapsam
I have spent the last few days attempting to get a Samba3 PDC/BDC setup with an LDAP SAM and need some clarification on exactly what should/can be initialized in the LDAP SAM. As my main sources of information/inspiration I have been using http://http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Replicated_Failover_Domain_Controller_and_file_server_using_LDAP and the smbldap-tools source code, but have also

Samba3 + smbldap-tools & smbpasswd
I've been fiddling lately with Samba 3 coupled with openldap, nss_ldap, pam_ldap and the smbldap-tools to create a PDC. Following various examples, most things work, but I have an issue with changing passwords from Windows. If I manually change a password with smbldap-passwd, the script correctly adjusts the sambaPwdMustChange attribute according to what defaultMaxPasswordAge is set to. If

Can not Rights to users
Hi, I've configured samba with ldap support and all is going well with normal users. I wanted to know how to give special right/privileges to users using any windows tool. I tried to use w2k's support tool (Active Directory Users and Computers) and nt's srvtools(usermgr) but none of these worked. win2k says "can not connect to pre-windows 2000 domain" nt connects and gets everything as expected but it just can not set/change anything (except password and some user flags). When i try to change group membership and add user to "Domain Admins"...

Allocate RID problem: algorithm vs NextRid
...nt but I was getting those nasty errors like the need of adding machine to domain twice and so on... ("A device attached to the system is not functioning" - error). I guess it's because Samba was trying to create sambaSAMAccount itself. The same error-full effect I got when using usermgr.exe from srvtools.exe. Q1. Is there any way to force Samba+LDAP to use "old style" RID allocation? Q2. Is there a very important reason NOT to use RID algorithmic allocation? Pawel pawel at dobrosielski.pl ps. I had the same "problem" on Ubuntu 8.04 and Samba 3.0.28a but th...

Samba3 and Domain Admin group mapping and use pbms.
...min. I've created group mappings (with good RIDs) for main groups (eg. SID-512, SID-513, SID-514, even tested SID-544, SID-548) and associated my user `jerome' to SID-512, the domadmin group. Then, with that user connected on freshly inserted XP workstation, I've tried to launch MS usermgr.exe to manage users. It used to work when my user jerome was in the [global] `admin users=' clause, but no more now. I have the following messages in the log.
