operator overload on views
In my User auth scheme I have a userlevel. I''ve overloaded the User
class operators like this:
def >(item)
if item.class == "User"
self.userlevel > item.userlevel
else
self.userlevel > item
end
end
(other operators are overloaded in essentially the same way). As I
understand it, u...

userlevel should not need to know about HZ?
Kernel people tell me users should never need to know the value of HZ
used by the currently running kernel. One kernel hacker even told me
that Linus once changed the value from 100 to 1000 just to see user
space programs break.
However, it is needed for the buffer parameter in TBF. The tc-tbf(8)
manpage:
If your buffer is too small, packets may be dropped because more
tokens arrive per timer

How to access atributes from a join table?
I have a table "domains", "users" and a join table of "domains_users"
which has the domain_id, user_id as well as a userlevel_id attribute.
I know that in the model User class I can set the value of this
attribute with a function that calls:
domains.push_with_attributes(domain, :userlevel => 1)
but how do I access the userlevel field so that I can use it later on?

what I want. (It''s unfortunate that its not running OpenSolaris as
otherwise we''d use the ip provider.)
What I''m trying to do is collect data on the latency between a packet

Thanks.

Mac - Filesystem Size Limit?
...e size of the
disk.
Is this a known limitation of samba on the Mac, or can it be fixed by
upgrading to a newer version of the client?
I found a bit of info stating that there _used_ to be a problem
(2004), but it would be fixed in the 10.4 series of MacOSX.

I couldn't find any other info. Anybody know?

Problems with ioloop on MacOS

MacOS 10.5.6
$ /opt/local/sbin/dovecot --exec-mail imap
Fatal: kevent(EV_ADD, 0) failed: Operation not supported
This version is configured --with-ioloop=kqueue
The problem seems to be known, if not understood:
http://lists.apple.com/archives/Darwin-userlevel/2008/Dec/msg00010.html
However, if I use --with-ioloop=poll, I eventually get
IMAP(dave): [9079]: invalid I/O fd 0, callback 0x9330
(not from the above command; it's a little later when Gnus tries to
interact with dovecot through the shell)
I've been unable to build/install any later...

cvs version 1.11.10 import? [security fix]
On a recent NetBSD commit I saw that they have imported cvs 1.11.10 as a
security fix yesterday:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2003/12/10/0025.html
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/source-changes/2003/12/10/0026.html
itojun has clairfied the commit in a mail sent to tech-userlevel list of
NetBSD:
http://mail-index.netbsd.org/tech-userlevel/2003/12/10/0003.html
Will this affect FreeBSD's version 1.11.5 cvs, too? If so, is it possible to
import the 1.11.10 before 5.2-RELEASE is released? Thanks!

Question about Using Grant Table
Hi:
There is a code sample in <The Definite Guide to the Xen Hypervisor>, chapter 4, "Using Grant Tables".
The code sample is as following:

extern void * shared_page;
extern grant_entry_t * grant_table;
void offer_page()
{
uint16_t flags;
/* create the grant table*/

...at's downstairs,
and I'm about to get ready to leave, so I'll dig it up later. :) From
what I remember though, all I changed was:
- the workgroup name,
- turned off browse master
- turned off the printing system
- set the guest user to 'nouser'
- used sharelevel security vs userlevel
- turned off (commented out) the default shares in the conf file
- copied the /tmp share sample, and changed the path and sharename to
reflect the dir I needed shared.
This is wholly insecure, but it works, is fast, and as this is a tiny
network, disconnected from the Net, with only a small hand...

Problems accessing SMB service from Win98
...System in the Network Neighbourhood
or by typing \\Arris\share in Start -> Run all I get is "\\Arris is not
available the computer or sharename cannot be found ..." or "The Network
Name was not found".
This is driving me up the walls! What on earth do I need to set? Share or
Userlevel? Which guest user? Accounce as what? Which Protocol? I've tried
numerous combinations but I just can't get it to let me in!
Can anybody help me please? I managed to compile the kernel, set up a UT
server and get the dhcp daemon to run so I suppose can't be that stupid?

Update FC1 samba-3.0.6 breaks system
Hi!
I have a curious problem. I updated my Fedora Core 1 box yesterday from
samba-3.0.2 to samba-3.0.6. All the packages that were suggested by yum.
I have the box join an NT4 Domain, and while yesterday before the update a
smbstatus would list the users as CENTRUM+Username (CENTRUM is my NT
Domain) today it refuses to do so, and any shares apart from the public
ones are not available any

samba 3.0.14 fails on boot, getpwnam cannot find nobody
I have been trying to get a share running for public access to part of a

userlevel security without a username, password pair. Part of my playing
around involved creating on the machine user nobody, then setting guest
account = nobody in samba.conf. Once realising i needed a passwrd pair I
smbpasswd -X nobody and then userdel nobody from my machine as a
prefix to setting up...

Then I posted a request on this list, having CC'ed to peter@, so@ and re@:

Colin Percival then replied with a patch to mitigate the problem, which
