Error in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
Hi all,
can I freely create an account for the Wiki and do changes? Or should I notify someone (Rowland)?
I found a small error in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders . The wiki mentions as rights on the share Read and Execute for Authenticated Users, but on that level I see only Full Control, Change and Read. My assumption is that it should be Change and Read for Authenticated users,

It's Windows 10. When I rewrite or update pages with Win7/8 screenshots,
I replace them with ones from the latest Windows client version. I think
it makes more sense than using screenshots from older version.

[home] trash folder
Hi,
i have a share called [home]. Designed like described here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders#Creating_the_Home_Folder_for_a_New_User.
First i have no problems but i want to enable a trash folder for each
user. At this time i have about 8000 home directories. The directorys
are subfolders from [home].
Is it possible to enable a trash folder inside the home directory for
each user?

User Home Folders
Following the "User Home Folders" page on the wiki using
Group Policy
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
I see this page was last updated in March 2017.
Not sure if anything has changed.
Although I can access the shares, the %LogonUser% directory
does not seem to be automatically generating.
Thoughts?

how to automatically create the home directory
Customer asks why [home] doesn't work for a new AD user, turns out the
linux directory doesn't exist on the DM server
How to let that directory be created?
GPO?
I find this:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders#Using_Active_Directory_Users_and_Computers
but the GPO seems only to create the network drive ... but not the
directory on the samba server itself.
hints?

Map user home dir using GPO failing
Hello,
I am trying to auto create and mount home directories using a GPO, as per
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders.
I currently have home directories being created, through the use of
pam_mkhomedir.so. with 'obey pam restrictions = yes' in my smb.conf file.
I have also setup the share permissions and Windows ACLs as per the above
link.
Unfortunately, even though the user's home directory is being...

Users, home directories and profiles
I've a working old fashion PDC samba server. When I've to create a new
user I add it to the system with adduser and to the samba using pdbedit.
In the smb.conf I've the [homes] shared folder for the homes and
[profile.V6] for the windows 10 profiles.
When the user enter in a Windows 10 machine, he's able to enter in his
home directory mapped as Z: and when exits his profile is

Home folder: a simple mapping or something more?
Probably this email is connected with my previous one, about folder
redirection.
Looking at:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
for AD there's three method to set home folder. ADUC and ldbedit is the
same, simply using different interfaces.
But setting a folder mapping via GPO, AFAI've understood, it is not exactly
the same as setting home folder.
Or better, setting a home folder trigger automatically a folder

I did read the User_Home_Folders, but it is not helping me to resolve
the issue.
Made the above changes and I am still having issues with home
directories, but having a different issue now.
When I create a user (user1) using aduc, and once created, right click

I will read that carefully but, 'cause there's a but: my client refuse to
change anything....
If this behaviour is fathered by trust relationships, they'll certainly
keep using %U and avoid clients from others domain than the default one...

Samba 4.6.5 Active Directory on CentOS
...ndd_on_a_Samba_AD_DC
A-HA!
This is exactly my experience in migrating from NT to AD mode the
domain, and finally i've switched to sssd to have home and shell
correctly working (eg, rfc2307 data).

Uh. So, practically speaking, migrating an existing domain from NT do
AD pose me the need to modify substantially the overral samba
configuration, or split the server's domain in two, one running the DC
and other as members?

unix_primary_group = yes don t work
thanks for the answer, Louis.
i m talking about the userhome dir.
I ve already read https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders and
i m applying the posix acls to my share.
As the users's home is shared between windows and linux, i d rather use
the posix acls than the windows ones.
Beside the homedir of my users have a form like /home/ first letter of
name /login ( ex : /home/d/dare ) and i cant change that, this is...

both ADs, powered down the old AD and connected the test computer to the
