classicupgrade and shares and printers and logins
Does classicupgrade copy over the smb.conf definitions for shares,
printers, and logins?
I don't see any shares in the new smb.conf (but they were in an include
in my old setup)
netlogon shows where I should put the scripts, but does not have my
parameters:
logon drive = H:
logon script = %U.cmd
perhaps because those were PDC parameters?
Printers is really not important, but I should

Strange problems with my shares
Hello guys,
I have plenty of problems with my shares.
First my env: Samba 4.2.1 on ubuntu 14.04, 2 DC and 1 Domain member (for
the share),Bind 9.9 DLZ for the DNS and winbindd.
When i follow the wiki page about settings home directory (
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_home_drives) the file system
permissions are very strange:
In the security Tab:
-The proprietary user account appears twice (with one entry with
permissions in grey)
-The first user account i had created in the AD appears with full access!
-The admin account appears but is disabled
-I had a root account (Unix...

Can't get 'root preexec' to run
Rowland, thanks for your effort, I highly appreciate it!
From what I had read before...
[home] would be an arbitrarily named share and its preexec command would
execute whenever a domain user connects to it
[homes] is a special purpose section in the smb.conf that comes into
play whenever a domain user connects to his or her home dir defined on
the DC
What MJ is telling seems to confirm

Homes share doesn't work for AD DCs?
Hi all,
Loving the easy NT4 upgrade process- DNS with my existing BIND works
great except a hint to make the domain name a subdomain so it doesn't
collide with existing DNS zone.
However, now when I try to connect to (for example) \\pegasus\crees I
get "The network name cannot be found". A new share, "homes" has
appeared, but of course it maps to nothing and I get the

...o, to summarize the discussion:
System accounts should not have rfc2307 IDs, only (unprivileged) users

Today, I followed the wiki page
<https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_home_drives> with all the

does not work. So I checked all my logs and I guess I have another

Will look at this some more and also find out what GPO is.
From what I have read so far about [home] share, when I create a user,
it creates this directory?
Then I can rsync the current home directory over from the current ser...

If you read this Samba wiki page:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_home_drives
It says this:
Do not name the share "[homes]", as this is a special share (see the
smb.conf manpage)!
<https://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/manpages/smb.conf.5.html> The
"[homes]" share on an AD DC cannot handle the automatic folder creation

It's also possible to do this both via GPO. There are many tutorials on

Home directory of AD-User
...seem to be setting up your AD DC as if it was a Samba 3 machine, you
would probably better off setting it up using ACLs instead of 'valid
users' etc:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Shares_with_Windows_ACLs
Also [homes] doesn't work on 4.1.x, see:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_home_drives
Finally 'browseable' is redundant on a Samba AD DC, there is no browsing
on an AD DC.

Basically yes, you can also give Domain Admins a gidNumber and then
make any users you want to be admins, members of this group.

Just followed it myself and it does work against a Samba fileserver.
