Firewalling, Ports and rtp.conf..
Hi,
Am I correct in this..
I want to setup IPTABLES to protect my * box..
The default rtp.conf defines that * will use ports 10000 to 20000..
IAX listens on 5036..
SIP listens on 5060..
I am assuming all ports used by * are UDP..
So I am planning on setting my server to block all inbound traffic except UDP ports 5060, 5036 and 10000-20000..
Am I leaving anything out??
Thanks..

samba ldap pdc w/unix accounts: local unix and ldap unix users can't resolve uids to names on the server
...ver, if I set /etc/libnss-ldap.conf permissions to 644, everything
works. Obviously, this is less than optimal as it has the "root" ldap
account password in plaintext.

GPG signature of the RC tarballs
Hi.
It looks like the gpg signatures of the RC2 and RC3 tarballs
are bogus... I've tested the .bz2 and .tar.gz files downloaded from the
us1 and us4 mirrors.
To confirm that it's not a local problem, I've tested the signature of the
Samba_CA.crt file (http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/) and it's ok.
Can someone else please confirm it?
Thanks.

Printer Device Modes
Greetings Admins,
The howto details setting the device mode using a windows client:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/printing.html#id2552900
Is there a way to script this process? We support 260+ printers and
it's a pain in the ass. (My wrist is hurting!)
regards,
Ryan

What version of Samba will work with an AIX version of Unix?
Hi all
We are currently looking to implement a scenario where our AIX Unix
Server and Windows Server can communicate with each other using a
version of Samba.
We currently scan images which are stored on our Unix system and ideally
we would like our Windows Server to have access to these files. The
software we use for our daily business is Unix based so the the scanned
images have to be

http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/RedHat/RPMS/i386/9.0/
i can see only one samba RPM
what about samba-common & samba-client?
Are these 2 built into samba or we have to do build this

I can't however give ownership to a file using an Active Directory account

I followed the instructions on this site but I must be missing something

Debian package including --with-acl-support?
Hi Samba Experts,
Does anyone know where I could download a Debian Sarge package that
has the --with-acl-support configure option set?
I've read that the Debian packages on Sarge don't have it, and I've tried
modifying /etc/apt/sources.list to include
deb http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/Debian sarge samba
But everytime I try to modify ACLS via Windows XP security tab, I get the
"PERMISSION DENIED" despite my smb.conf with nt acl support = yes
This is a vanilla install from the debian packages on that site, but let me
know if you need...

samba install query
...ow. It appears to install correctly when running the 'pkgadd -d <file>' command, but i wish to be able to configure it to use the winbindd daemon (i.e. run ./configure --with-winbind) but i am unsure how i do this as i am unable to find the configure utility to be able run it.
http://us4.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/solaris/sparc/
Any ideas? Have i downloaded the incorrect package?
Server details that i am attempting the install on :
SunOS ss44bscme02 5.8 Generic_117350-34 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V440

wbinfo -u - do I need to worry?
Hi all,
Will keep this brief :-) Just trying to clear some things up regarding
winbind.
wbinfo -u returns "Error looking up domain users". I'm only using
winbind for ntlm_auth which works fine. I'm not using AD or any Windows
server-based domain. Samba only. There don't seem to be any obvious
errors in the winbind log. Do I need to worry about that error? Should

Automatic creation of home directories
...use
the mkhomedir module and enable "obey pam restrictions" in smb.conf.
The trouble is that I'm using domain security to allow existing domain
users to login which means I have to use "encrypt passwords = yes".
Now, as I understand from the official samba howto:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/pam.html
pam is automatically ignored when encrypted passwords are used.
So how do I resolve this conflict?
And on a related matter, if I use pam_winbind to authenticate users of a
unix system against a windows domain controller does this mean that...

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gd...
