How do I make Lithuanian characters display correctly in R graphics?
Instead of the special characters for Lithuanian language I get question

plot cyrillic characters on MacOS X

I'm running R version 2.4.1 (2006-12-18) on MacOS X 10.4; my $LANG is

legend, I get warnings (in Russian):
> pdf()

Warning messages:

2: ?????????? ?????? ??????? 0xc5
3: ?????????? ?????? ??????? 0xd3

How to embed italic Greek letters in a eps file?
Hi,
I need to add on a plot text containing italic Greek characters using
the function mtext (i.e. I cannot use Hershey vectors). The characters
are nicely displayed when the file is saved as png but not when saved as
eps. See code below as example:
#postscript('test.eps')
png('test.png')
plot(1,1, type = 'n')
mtext(side = 3, line = 2,

...NimbusRom"} respectively. If your
PostScript device is using URW fonts, you will obtain access to more
- characters and more approriate metrics by using these names. To make
+ characters and more appropriate metrics by using these names. To make
these easier to remember, \code{"URWHelvetica" == "NimbusSan"} and
\code{"URWTimes" == "NimbusRom"} are also supported.
