To make winbindd upset and unresponsive (3.2.6)
This simple and often-suggested command to test Samba: getent passwd reproducibly upsets winbindd on my SLES 10 SP1 machine. The command does often return many results from our campus ADS. But after it completes -- or if the command pauses for quite some time after showing local users -- Samba is troubled. In five tests this afternoon, after getent passwd, wbinfo --ping fails ever...

[patch 14/19] xfs: eagerly remove vmap mappings to avoid upsetting Xen
-stable review patch. If anyone has any objections, please let us know. ------------------ From: Jeremy Fitzhardinge <jeremy@goop.org> patch ace2e92e193126711cb3a83a3752b2c5b8396950 in mainline. XFS leaves stray mappings around when it vmaps memory to make it virtually contigious. This upsets Xen if one of those pages is being recycled into a pagetable, since it finds an extra writable mapping of the page. This patch solves the problem in a brute force way, by making XFS always eagerly unmap its mappings. [ Stable: This works around a bug in 2.6.23. We may come up with a better solut...

Taking down domain controller and I don't want to upset winbind
Hi, I use ads and have a windows domain with several domain controllers (dc1, dc2, dc3, etc). Winbind seems to "be connected" to one of these domain controllers: wbinfo -P checking the NETLOGON for domain[MYDOMAIN] dc connection to "dc1.mydomain.local" succeeded Presumably winbind learned that "dc1" was a domain controller by performing a DNS lookup of type SRV on

Strange locking behaviour upsets Apache
We have a server which runs Samba and Apache. Web developers edit their files (via Windows mapped drives) from Windows XP SP2. These files are typically CGI files and the developers' routine is: while (web page not quite right) { 1. Edit file 2. Save 3. Click Reload on web browser 4. Check results } They go around that loop many times during a typical development run.

Well it would be at least mildly annoying my previously nice looking file now has a pile of blank lines in just because someone didn't know how to use their editor ... --

[PATCH] [Xen-API] Patch for fixing the rtc/timeoffset entry
This patch rewrites the rtc/timeoffset entry so the VM''s record can be retrieved with the Java xmlrpc library. If the entry is ''None'' it upsets the xmlrpc parser. This fixes it, though maybe there''s a better place in xend to place similar code. Multiple index instances and ferret/acts_as_ferret
We''re running Ferret and acts_as_ferret in our production environment. We have multiple mongrels talking to a single index on a separate (virtual) server over DRb. This is working ok for now, as our index updates are fairly infrequent. I''m concerned with the lack of rendundancy/scalability in this layout. Our index won''t get too big - maybe 100k indexed objects, each no

including r code in a latex file
Dear R people, The header practically says it all. I was wanting to include r code in a Latex file. Since R code using{ and }, which are interpreted by Latex as control characters, I would expect it to get upset. I believe that \{ would probably print as {, but I hoping I don't have to go through the code and add lots of \. I would rather use some global commannd, along the lines of

Debian release version numbers for the April 2016 sec release
...t take you to task Andrew, I was confused, the Samba history web page clearly says 'do not use' but debian seems to be using the versions that have that epitath, so I said ( in a jocular way, there is a laughing smiley at the end) 'OK, just who in Debian cannot read ???' if that upsets you, well sorry, but it was not meant in that tone. A quick post to the Samba mailing explaining everything just after the CVE release was all that was required, but it seems that you had to A) confuse me and then B) get upset yourself by my jocular comment before you released the info. Again...
