Migrating from NT4 to Samba/LDAP - Demoting PDC to domain member
...Exchange 5.5 email server which we would like to keep in service. I imagine what i need to do is add the old NT4 PDC server to the new Samba Domain once i have completed the migration. I am not sure how to do this ?. I have found this software (U Promote ) at http://www.purenetworking.net/Products/UPromote/UPromote.htm that may do the trick. Has anyone out there performed a task similar to this or used this product ? or is it even necessary. Is there another (free) way ?. NT4 Migration Question
...lication would be a challenge and, given the various customizations to the vertical application, not likely to succeed. Two questions then: 1. What are the implications of leaving this existing NT4 BDC in place with a new Linux-Samba-3 PDC (and possibly a new Linux-Samba BDC)? 2. Has anyone used UPromote, which claims to do be able to demote an NT4 BDC to a member server without reinstalling the OS? (See http://utools.com/UPromote.asp for more info.) Thanks! RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Are you sure of that ? I thought it was possible... If it is not, I've got another slightly off topic question : how to I demote my former Windows NT PDC (that is now a BDC) to a normal Windows NT server, so that I have no problem with it ? Thanks in advance. -------- Message d'origine-------- De: Umberto Zanatta [mailto:uzanatta@provincia.treviso.it] Date: lun. 26/07/2004 14:09

Demote old NT4 PDC to member of Samba domain?
Hi, When installing Samba, I made it a PDC in a new domain. Now I would like the old NT4 PDC in the old domain to become a plain host in my Samba domain. Is this possible? I need to keep the old NT4 machine because it's running the Symantec Corporate Edition NAV. In other words, I have NEWDOMAIN with Samba PDC and all clients OLDDOMAIN with NT4 PDC alone, no client Can my NT4 PDC become

RE : RE : Samba as a PDC / Windows NT 4 SP6a as a BDC
Thanks But this is for demoting a PDC to a BDC. I've done that already. What I want to demote my BDCs to standalone server. I'll give a try to upromote. NT Domain to Samba-LDAP just disabling netlogon on NT PDC?
...DC in my subnet, if I just disable it's netlogon service? Reason: This old NT-Server has a database running which is still needed after the migration to samba, but it doesn't need to have any NETBIOS-NTDomain functionality after the switch, just TCP-IP. I know of third-party tools like UPromote, but if I can avoid them, I think this is a much easier and transparent way of doing it. Exchange 5.5 not seeing new Domain accounts - lsass.exe searching local SAM
...light on the matter. Background : I successfully completed a migration from a Windows NT4 Domain to s Samba domain with LDAP backend about 2 months. The old NT4 PDC also hosted an exchange 5.5 sp4 email server so i could not just rubbish it. Once the migration was complete i used a tool called UPromote to demote the old PDC and rejoined it to the new domain (Same Domain Name). All appeared to work well... However, When a added new account to the system they could not access their email using their domain account whereas existing accounts were working fine. The mail server reported this err...
