UPnP support in tinc
...ld still allow UDP hole punching to work). But I digress. So, I'm afraid there's still work to be done to ensure that tinc uses the network in the most efficient way possible for users behind NATs (i.e. "road warriors"). The only way we can try to get through EDM-NATs is by using UPnP-IGD, which tinc could use to explicitly open its UDP port on the NAT. This should pretty much fix the issue with home routers since most of them support UPnP (for example the aforementioned ZTE router does). As a bonus, if we also use UPnP to open the TCP metaconnection port, it could even allow Au...

...harder to maintain). Or we add a dependency on pthreads-win32 on Windows so that we can write the same code on both platforms. It's mostly a matter of taste really. (Personally I'm leaning towards the latter.) I'm not really concerned with communication. In fact I'm pretty sure the UPnP thread wouldn't have to communicate with tinc at all: it's pretty much a fire-and-forget affair. The UPnP code would only need to know which ports to forward, a parameter that can be provided at thread start. Afterwards, the thread would just keep the UPnP mapping alive indefinitely without...

...s.php Are you referring to port restricted NAT in the first graph? Because that should still work with tinc. Symmetric NAT looks like 15% or so, and if you include everything to the right of it, it comes to 35% or so. What is more interesting is the last graph: tinc does UDP hole punching but not UPnP (yet), the difference between the first two bars is about 10%. Not unworthwile. > A Google search for "pf cone nat" returns somewhat depressing results: > apparently it's not even possible to configure pf to act as an > EIM-NAT, and people asking for such an option are basic...

Has anyone successfully got UPnP and Shorewall working together ? If so, has anyone created documentation on how to get it working ? Thanks in advance, Mark

...to be compliant in order for UDP hole punching to work. However, that indeed means that my original post was badly worded - I should have said "50% of *cases*" not "50% of NATs". My bad. > What is more interesting is the last graph: tinc does UDP hole punching > but not UPnP (yet), the difference between the first two bars is about > 10%. Not unworthwile. It is especially worthwhile if you consider that UPnP makes you reachable not only if your NAT is making things difficult, but also if the NAT of *the other side* is making things difficult, too. UPnP is basically...

Upnp ( linux-igd) on bering
...ceforge.net that seems to be the missing piece... I used the ideas from www.wix.net.nz/LEAF/glibc.html to build a leaf cd using the redhat 7.3 glibc ( It''s alot easier to test applications because I can simply copy the binary ( and the .so) on the bering machine. I managed to compile the upnp sdk and the upnpd daemon and make it run on the leaf.... My question is.. Is there somebody already working on that ? How should I configure shorewall to let upnpd works... I don''t see any packet drop in the log files.. Thanks in advance Etienne Charlier Charlier.Etienne@belgacom.net

Possible multicast problem with UPnP Media Server
I'm trying to run Asset UPnP media server under Wine 1.1.27 on Ubuntu 8.04. The problem is that media clients on the same network don't appear to SSDP discover this media server. The server itself *does* advertise itself fine on the network though (but as this is fairly infrequent, then any clients can be hanging around...

Samba, IPv6, turning off NetBT and Network discovery
Hi, I hope this hasn't already been discussed to death, but I didn't find the answer through Google. In short, my question is: how can I advertise a Samba server through UPnP/Network Discovery? I'm currently using Samba 3.2.6, but should be able to upgrade if needed. I am trying to build an IPv6-only network, for now just for testing purposes. The problem I am having is that Microsoft no longer supports NetBT on IPv6. Samba itself, of course, works fine over port 4...

Using SIP stack within Asterisk to reboot phones - Possible?
Hi Everyone, I use Asterisk for regularPBX use it's made for. But I want to take it a bit further and use it at cmmand level to be able to send SIP notifies to restart a phone or take advantage of a phone's UPnP capabilities. Is Asterisk capable of that? If so, what is a simple SIP reboot message like and how can I invoke it from a Asterisk CLI? If Asterisk is not the best tool for this purpose what is a very simple to implement SIP stack out there that can do this? Thanks, -------------- next part -----...
