CentOS4 upgradeany hangs while loading sata_via
Hi, I have a machine running under CentOS 3.4 which I want to upgrade to CentOS 4. I booted using the CentOS 4 CD1 using "linux upgradeany". Problem is that loading sata_via never terminates. Ismod shows the sata_via module in state "Loading" while all others are in state "Live". The dmesg output shows that the module gets loaded, sees two disks, then prints info about the first one and is stuck there. I ca...

Can't install CentOS4
Hi everyone, My email server is running CentOS 3 and I can't upgrade it to CentOS 4 using the CD's. At first I thought it was the old Megaraid card (that's no longer supported), so I replaced that with a new card. I've tried ISO's from CentOS 4, 4.1 and now 4.2 which I've tested and booted in other machines. Just not this one. I've never had a problem like this

upgrading 3.6->4
greetings - I'm trying to upgrade a centos 3.6 box to version 4. I tried to do an upgrade using yum but that failed and now the Cd installer is not letting me upgrade either. Here's what I did: following the howto, I tried to do the upgrade using yum. I installed the GPG key and upgraded the centos-release and the centos-yumconf packages. When I tried to upgrade yum package I ran

migration from redhat AS3/4
We have 30 or so boxes that are currently running either redhat as3 or as4 and would like to migrate them to Centos 4.2. We have a local centos 4.2 repository using yam. I have in the past updated es3 to as3 by removing the redhat-release rpm and installing the other redhat rpm. I realize there are virtually no differences in es and as3, except for access to additional packages. In any

How does CentOS compare with FC 3
I have FC 3 running on my "play/test" box. Is CentOS (RHEL) a level above? Can I do an Upgrade or should I do an Install? Upgrading from 3.4 to 4.0 beta X
Please forgive me if I missed something, but I've searched all over in hopes of finding something documented on a procedure to upgrade a Centos 3.4 system to the beta. I've got the DVD burned and am testing the process on VMWare. All I could figure out how to do was install over the existing partition without formatting, but this was quasi-disastrous so I 'reverted' my

Upgrading from RH 9
Howdy. I've got a RH 9 server that has a 60 gig hard drive in it. I'm gonna replace it with a 100 gig and install CentOS 4.4. Can I just copy the password files, home directories, config files, etc. or does it need to be done some other way? Thanks

How to Upgrade CentOS 3.8 to CentOS 4.4?

up2date upgrade-to-release question
Hi all, I just wanted to ask if anybody did a # up2date --upgrade-to-release=4.1 on CentOS 3.5 box? I did it and I'm having a bit of problems. The box just dies... at intervals between half a day and a couple of days. Initially I considered it was a hw problem, so I had the tech support check it out, and they just switched the box with another, and put the harddisks back on the new box...

Migration
Hello all! I'm new to the list. I just upgraded 3 White Box Linux servers (database, application and internet) yesterday to Centos 3.4 using the info in http://centos.org/modules/smartfaq/faq.php?faqid=19. Very easy, and that was a very helpfull document! The decision was based in the speed of updates, really much faster in Centos! Is there a similar way to upgrade a Fedora Core 1 server

Migrate RHEL3 to Cent3
I have several RHEL3 WS machines that were installed here running as servers and their RHN subscriptions were never kept up. Now that I have become responsible for them I would like to move them to CentOS as I can keep them updated as needed. Some of them I can simply migrate to new machines, but a few I can not. Is it possible to simply upgrade a RHEL3 to the latest CentOS 3? If

Upgrade of Centos 4.1 with 4.2 ISO disc
Can I upgrade my Centos 4.1 system with the 4.2 ISO install disc? If so, how do I do it? It seams to want to do a full (i.e. format, wipe out old) install over everything. I do not want to lose my various configurations (e.g. kppp, kde desktop settings, etc) that I have already set up under 4.1. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Upgrading FC2 -> Centos4RC1 (possible, but messy)
This was my experience with upgrading, your mileage may vary especially if it's in kilometers. This is what I had to do to get my system running again. ############## In order to attempt this upgrade, I had to use "linux upgradeany", a mode not listed for the installer CDs. My first problem was I could no longer boot the system after the upgrade. My grub menu showed my old FC2 kernel, Fedora Core (2.6.10-1.14_FC2), but not the kernel for Centos. Trying to boot this FC2 kernel it froze after "Enabling swap spa...

problem with swap and upgrade to 4 from 3.3
...hread on the Centos Forum. The initial problem I had with Python 2.3/2.2 has been resolved, and now I am trying to upgrade the kernel to 2.6 prior to the yum upgrade, unfortunately it bails out at the end with dependancy erros on Xfree86. At this point I decided to use the CDs with a the "upgradeany" option. This went fine initally but then bails out with a swap error, this is because swap on this machine is on /dev/md2 (a mirrored set) and this was not set up at the original install time, as all the other partitions were: when the machine was installed, one of my staff did not set...
