Updating Samba from a bit old 4.0.10
Hi dears, It has been a long time that we did not update our samba (4.0.10). Is it possible to directly update it to the latest stable version as stated in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba or we should take another path?! Please note that we have just one samba 4 AD DC working with internal DNS and without any additional DC or replication. Yours, E. Alaei

checking replication after Samba update
I have updated from Samba 4.5.0 to 4.6.2 on my second DC and all appears good, so far. On the "https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba" [1] page of the documentation in section "Updating Multiple Samba Domain Controllers". The last line " . . . and always verify that the replication is working correctly." The replication discussed here. Is this the database? (i.e. run "samba-tool dbcheck"?) --...

Upgrading Samba 4.2 to 4.4
We're upgrading (Sernet) Samba 4.2 to 4.4. As recommended on this page: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba, I have upgraded one of out 2 DCs, the one that does not have any FSMO roles. We will spend the next week making sure everything works as expected. So far, so good. One thing I'm not clear on is whether I should move the FSMO roles to the upgraded DC before upgrading the other one or if it...

How to best configure DNS for upgrading samba AD DC?
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba says we should shut down all the samba processes before we upgrade. However, if I do that, then I don't have DNS b/c samba _is_ my DNS on the AD DC. I configured it per https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_an_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller Am I missing something? Do I have...

I actually did, I remember now (after I read your suggestions). On this page (https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba) it actually says: If you update to Samba 4 and later, you do not have to migrate to Active Directory. That was enough for me at that time. I KNOW I have to update at some stage but in the moment I am getting conflicting messages. On the webpage it still says I can use old type NT domains. S...

Samba pid in uninterruptible state
Greetings, I recently upgraded Samba on an Ubuntu 14.04.2 server from version 4.1.9 to 4.2.3. Upon rebooting Samba process goes into a running state then after a short time it will go into an uninterruptible state. If I check the log.samba, it appears that it is attempting to start, then hangs at the following: [2016/06/23 15:16:00.329503, 3] ../source4/param/share.c:124(share_register)

DC Upgrade Compiled to Package
...replace them with the latest version (as well as make them easily redeployable). Our current version is 2:4.0.6-12 (compiled from source and we hope to jump up to the latest packaged version as available in the Ubuntu Xenial repositories. I've seen this page: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba and intend on reading the release notes as instructed, but was wondering if anyone had any additional things to look out for, especially related to going from a source installed version to a package installed version. upgrade from 4.1.9 to 4.1.13
I went through the upgrade process describe here https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Updating_Samba after grabbing the samba 4.1.13 source I configured, make and make installed the new source over the top of my existing 4.1.9 code.
