Problem with NT encryption to Linux Samba Server

Account for user 'pcguest' was disabled.
I already created a unix user of pcguest in /etc/passwd and give a
guest ok = yes permission.
Even worse I can't access it from local machine using a command :
host $ smbclient //cy25013-7/public -Upcguest%pcguest

Got a positive name query response from 166.34.21.214 ( 166.34.21.214 )

smbpasswd fails on Samba 2.0.3, HPUX 10.20
I have been unable to make smbpasswd work on my new Samba version 2.0.3
(HPUX 10.20).
The smb.conf was modified from a working version on Linux (version
1.9.18p8).
The relevant (I hope) output from smbpasswd, smb.log and testparms follow
below.
Are the log messages about "Couldn't set effective gid to -24 currently set
to (real=0,eff=0)"
and "Can't become connected
