Samba 4.19.2: "Unwilling to perform" password change
Hello All,
I have a custom built version of Samba 4.19.2 running on Rocky Linux 9.
When I attempt to change a password via LDAP, I get an error, "Unwilling to
Perform". In Google searches I found that this is due to password
complexity requirements. However, in my case, I get the error no matter
how complex the password. Also, I have the following line in my smb.conf
file:

change primaryGroupID - unwilling to perform
My tool is growing fast and it takes me to the finishing line for
setting up my new user database. But nw I came across another strange issue:
I'd like to change the primaryGroupID. It is currently set to 513, which
simply does not exist. I wanted to set to 100, which exists and actually
the user is a member of this group, but then I get the following exception:
ldap.UNWILLING_TO_PERFORM:

"Unwilling to Perform" UNIX Attributes
Hi,
I'm running Samba 4.0.8, on FreeBSD 9.2, from operating system
packages, as a DC. I have a BDC, running the same. I'm using a Windows
7 workstation with "Active Directory Users and Computers" snap-in to
manage usernames, passwords, etc. The workstation is part of the
domain, and I'm logged on as Administrator in the domain.
I can create groups and add members to them

A Guide for the Unwilling S User
"A Guide for the Unwilling S User" is available at
http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Tutor/unwilling_S.pdf
(Or click on Tutorials from the main web page.)
This is an improved version of the document that was put in
the same location a few days ago. It has dropped the "draft"
status, but I am always interested in suggestions for improvements.

Hi,
I am sure I have come across this before but have previously either
ignored it or somehow worked around it. However it has come up again
and this time I will try to find out what's going on, hopefully we can
fix whatever the issue is.
I have a Samba 4.2.2 domain that generally works fine; I have rfc2307
enabled so that I can keep UIDs/GIDs consistent across machines whilst

I have checked the ldbsearch result and both groups look to be pretty

sanitised some of the output, replacing parts with 123/a/b/c, but the
rest of the output is byte for byte as seen)

Building of Samba 4.7.9 in the same environment works flawlessly.
What goes wrong in Samba 4.7.10 with detection of pylab?

how to keep up with R?
Dear Listers,
I've been a big fan of R since graduate school. After working in the
industry for years, I haven't had many opportunities to use R and am mainly
using SAS. However, I am still forcing myself really hard to stay close to R
by reading R-help and books and writing R code by myself for fun. But by and
by, I start realizing I have hard time to keep up with R and am afraid that

The R Inferno
"The R Inferno" is now on the Burns Statistics website at
http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Tutor/R_inferno.pdf
Abstract: If you are using R and you think you're in hell,
this is a map for you.
Also, I've expanded the outline concerning R on the
Burns Statistics 'Links' page. Suggestions (off-list) for
additional items are encouraged.

Formatting cgroup and factor level labels in Hmisc latex function
I'm trying to typeset at simple crosstable with the Hmisc latex function. And I have two problems.
1. How do I make all columns the same width? The Latex function seems very unwilling to break the 'cgroup' labels and the factor level labels. Please have look at this screenshot that shows my problem:

multiple names to assign
'assign' does not give a warning if 'x' has length
greater than 1 -- it just uses the first element:
assign(c('a1', 'a2'), 1:2)
One way of thinking about this is that people using
'assign' get what they deserve. The other is that it is
used seldom enough that adding a warning isn't going
to slow things down appreciably.

spreadsheet addiction
There's a new page on the Burns Statistics website
http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Tutor/spreadsheet_addiction.html
that looks at spreadsheets from a quality assurance perspective. It
presents R as a suitable alternative to spreadsheets. Also there are
several specific problems with Excel that are highlighted, including
the status of statistical functionality in Excel.
