getting dovecot unwedged
...o read or write. Checking the
process, the server looks stuck in an infinite poll/wait loop.
telnetting directly to the
server shows that things are definately amiss, though the original
problem may have been caused by a faulty client (Apple Mail or Outlook).
My question at this point is how to unwedge the server. Is there a
cache repair utility, or a list of files which shouldn't exist? I don't
see this info on the Wiki.
After sortinig this out, I'm going to install mysql, since this seems to
be the more-tested installation. Will dovecot automatically rebuild my
current databases...

FreeBSD 4.9 RC1 (more bad news)
A few hours ago I downloaded .../i386/ISO-IMAGES/4.9-RC1-i386-disc1.iso
and made kern/mfsroot floppies from it. If I enable my ICH5R SATA
controller in "native" mode, the 4.9-RC1 GENERIC kernel hangs solidly
(only the system reset button can unwedge it) during device configuration.
The last line of bootstrap monologue written by the kernel is:
plip0" <PLIP network interface> on ppbus0
If I do a "boot -v", the kernel continues with:
bpf: lp0 attached
ed0: not probed (disabled)
fe0: not probed (disabled)
ie0: not pro...

I've been doing that all the time, and it got LLVM unwedged.
It wasn't enough to get LLVM-GCC to compile though.

shadow_copy script example leads to system hang?
...well-known system hang when you do the lvcreate.
The workaround is to NOT use xfs_freeze. I don't know if this is a kernel
bug -- haven't gotten things tracked down far enough yet, but I can
confirm that the above does cause a hard hang that eventually requires
rebooting the system to unwedge everything.
kernel = 2.6.27.29 from OpenSuse 11.1
Samba = 3.4.3-12
lvcreate from lvm2-2.02.39-8
The notes I read inidicated a problem in the kernel or maybe, more specifically
the xfs in the kernel. Will have to check with xfs folks to see if they've
heard of this...
Have yet to sub to th...

self.__opendb()
File "/var/lib/mailman/Mailman/ListAdmin.py", line 70, in __opendb
self.__db = marshal.load(fp)
EOFError: EOF read where object expected
The solution was to delete the request.db (or at least move it), which
unwedged mailman mostly. The final solution was to run ''listzap'' by Wichert
Akkerman, which zonked the outstanding requests database, allowing the
mailman administrative website to function again. Thanks Wichert!
Anyhow, happy LARTC-ing!

warning: NFS hangs with dovecot 2.3.8 on Debian buster
...r/mail/.../index/storage/dovecot.map.index.log (WRITE lock held by pid XXXX)
The stuck process itself doesn't seem to do anything, is stuck in "D" disk state, "strace" doesn't show anything (and after attaching, strace itself needs a kill -KILL to stop). The only way to unwedge the process seems to be to do a kill -KILL of the stuck process. Reading from the mailbox is still possible.
We are in the process of contacting the linux-nfs folks about this, but I'm trying to reproduce this on a test-cluster first, to be able to present a well-documented case. Since this ha...

1) Variables like CC, CXX, CFLAGS don't work properly when submitted via
the command line. The handling seems to be inconsistent, i.e. it seems

[23:15] <sabre> brg: did you just do something to bugzilla?
[23:15] <sabre> It seems like it just got unwedged or something
[23:15] <brg> yup, i upgraded it to 2.16.5, and fixed the sanity check error that i got
