fork bomb?
I'm running dovecot on my FreeBSD 6.0 VPS (just upgraded from FBSD

logs for all my services had errors like this one from dovecot:
Apr 6 19:32:22 design1st dovecot: fork() failed: Resource
temporarily unavailable
eventually it got worse:

fonts - newbie squared
Background:
I run an NT 4.0 installation that also boots to my primary Linux (Red Hat 9)
sitting on a partition in a second drive. Earlier, after installing Red Hat
9, I tried to install wine, but it Had Problems, even when I tried some of
the solutions. So I waited. Recently, I tried to install an updated version
of wine using an rpm, so I tried to unstall the old stuff. Wouldn't

1.1.6 -> 1.1.7 regression: dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files
Hi all,
We updated to 1.1.7 a week or two back from 1.1.6 (both standard atrpms
builds). Since doing so, twice now I've seen the imap services accept
connections but they hang before the banner is printed (pop seems to be
unaffected). I see this in the logs:
Dec 23 14:02:15 mail9 dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files

Problems with xlsx and rjava
Hi,
I keep getting the below error regarding rJava which is required by package xlsx (I have used it in the past to directly import data from Excel 2010).
I was on R version 2.15.0 when I was getting this error this morning. So I upgraded to 2.15.1 but still the same problem. I tried unstalling and reinstalling xlsx and even rJava directly from the source as indicated here:

help: "dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files"
Dear All,
I'm having an intermittent problem, with dovecot slowing to a crawl.
Restarting dovecot fixes the problem.
Looking at the maillog, I see loads of these errors....
dovecot: pipe() failed: Too many open files
dovecot: Temporary failure in creating login processes, slowing down for now
dovecot: Created login processes successfully, unstalling
looking at the processes, I can see

Thanks!
...y probably i cant get my game to work.
and i thought the people in here were cool and helpful, and all i have seen is emptiness, is that because people dont want to bother helping the less knowledgeable or perhaps they dont know them selves or is it simply that no one can be bothered lately?
i have unstalled wine but it is still there, i have tried all sorts of help/tips and still no go... the best i had it was when game was running but the character screen was black, but since then from trying different things, its gone to shit again

"Severe - Unable to create a directory under ..."
Hi,
I'm playing around with installation of a number of older, Win
98/Win ME era sound programs. One I'm working on right now comes up
with what, for me, is sort of a standard problem. I get a dialog box
with this message:
"Severe - Unable to create a directory under C:\PROG~FBU\GSampler.
Please check write access to this directory."
I'm running the installation form an

PV 0.9.12pre3 gives BSOD when installing in VM in Xenserver 5.
...the BSOD http://www.nabble.com/file/p20607865/bsod.jpg
- One of the Device Management screen -before- doing the GPLPV driver
install http://www.nabble.com/file/p20607865/screenshot_BEFORE_install.jpg
i installed the GPLPV drivers before, on a system which had the XenTools
4.0/4.1 installed, i unstalled those.. and then a install of GPLPV has no
problems...
BUT a install from scratch.. on a real clean system gives errors.

Monitor Eaton 93PS UPS
I also operate an HP T1500 G3 which it's an Eaton made UPS. Connected on
usb i get frequent communication errors and data aquisition stopped. Mine
has a serial connection, also. Operating via serial has no trouble. Maybe
it's something related to usb setting in bios, i.e. Legacy mode, speed
setting, etc.
However on serial mode looks like the eaton or hoe power protector software
does not

R is open source.... (and shell scripts are considered self-documenting by some)
On Unix-alikes, R is a shell script which, if called with 1st argument CMD, calls ${R_HOME}/bin/Rcmd, which is another shell script that ends with

Error code query (PR#13360)
Hi
I'm working on installing R and Rcmdr on a Mac running Leopard. I've
had it running in the past and had to reinstall 11X iwhen putting some
notes together for students. To get screen shots I reinstalled 11X
without unstalling it first.
Having loaded the additional packages with Rcmdr, when I try to open
Rcmdr I now get the following error messages:
