unmountable ext3 root recovery
After a (hardware) crash yesterday, I was unable to boot up due to
unrecoverable ide errors (according to the printk()s) when accessing
the root filesystem's journal for recovery.
Unable to recover, I tried deleting the has_journal option, but that was
disallowed given that the needs_recovery flag was set. I saw no way
to unset that flag.
Unable to access the backups...

Ices memory leak?
...have icecast up and running with
WinAmp streaming to it from my '98 box for days at a

launch top to watch and my free mem starts dropping

have 2MB free with Ices crashed and the memory
unrecovered which sends me to the wonderful world of

I thought this was maybe that I was just running
ices 0.2.2 so I switched to ices 0.1.0 and have the
same symptom.

rsync patch
...I will be doing much more testing in the
coming months.
The main changes are to fileio.c in the map_file() function, which
I've restructured a little to allow for retrying errors, delaying
before retrying errors, and filling the read buffer with an arbitrary
byte to make the identification of unrecovered data easier.
The three options are:
--retry-errors=NUM, which retries the residue of a failed read NUM
times
--retry-delay=NUM, which sleeps after an error is encountered before
retries are attempted. This helps some disks that go nuts when they
encounter certain kinds of media error. For in...

[PATCH 1/1] Patch to recover orphans in offline slots during recovery and mount
During recovery, a node recovers orphans in it's slot and the dead node(s). But
if the dead nodes were holding orphans in offline slots, they will be left
unrecovered.
If the dead node is the last one to die and is holding orphans in other slots
and is the first one to mount, then it only recovers it's own slot, which
leaves orphans in offline slots.
This patch queues complete_recovery to clean orphans for all offline slots

kernel oops
Hi,
This is probably way far unsupported, but here goes:
I had been running ext3 0.0.3b for a while and found that I wanted to
convert back to ext2 so I could still play with 2.4test kernels.
Here is what I did:
1) boot the machine with kernel args init=/bin/bash
2) run debugfs on the root partition to remove the have_journal
ext2 feature flag.
3) remount the root filesystem rw as ext2
