...long live the "American Way". Lack of vision and inspiration always hampers the betterment of our unique world. Great people, all over our planet, usually do a bit more than they are paid for. New plugin: Flagger
Hi all, I''ve just put out a plugin for ActiveRecord that stops you having to write repetitive bundles of methods such as class Order < ActiveRecord::Base def self.paid find_all_by_paid(true) end def self.unpaid find_all_by_paid(false) end def mark_as_paid update_attribute(:paid, true) # related tasks end def mark_as_unpaid update_attribute(:paid, false) # related tasks end end It gives you dynamic attribute-based methods similar to these. You can use...

syslog-ng or rsyslog?
Hi All. I've used syslog-ng for some time. I like it. I have a project in which I need to choose a central logging solution. What are your experiences with rsyslog? Is it more complex to setup than syslog-ng? Or maybe does it have some additional features? I am also thinking about using some gui tools for log parsing and graphing. May be proprietary/paid. Any suggestions? Best regards,

removing NA from a data frame
Hi, It appears that deal does not support missing values (NA), so I need to remove them (NAs) from my data frame. how do I do this? (I am very new to R, so a detailed step-by-step explanation with code samples would be nice). Some columns (variables) have quite a few NAs, so I would rather drop the whole column than sacrifice all the rows (observations) which have NA in that column. How do I

EoL dates
Is there any reason why releases have EoL dates after only 12 months? While it's clear that some sort of EoL is important, I can't think of any security advisories recently which weren't accompanied by patches for all the security branches, even those which are no longer officially supported. lme() vs aov(y ~ A*B + Error(aa %in% A + bb %in% B)) [repost]
I've posted the following to R-help on May 15. It has reproducible R code for real data -- and a real (academic, i.e unpaid) consultion background. I'd be glad for some insight here, mainly not for myself. In the mean time, we've learned that it is to be expected for anova(*, "marginal") to be contrast dependent, but still are glad for advice if you have experience. Thank you in advance, Martin

Installing support for Chinese text in Centos 7
...tering Asian text on CentOS 7 is so poorly developed, poorly documented and poorly packaged. One would have thought that the Asian market for RHEL/CentOS 7 would be of sufficient importance for all relevant programs to be available in one of the key repositories. > It takes developers, probably unpaid, to do it as they can. I would guess it's RedHat, an American company, that decides what goes in official repositories and doesn't see a need for it. > I am under the impression that fcitx, considered the replacement of iBus used in CentOS 6 - and which worked flawlessly - has not...

Caught between a Red Hat and a CentOS
...ike Oracle, Novell argues that it can give customers Red Hat value at a lower price. "There's just one problem with this marketing spin: the "low-cost alternative" to Red Hat isn't Novell. It's CentOS. And CentOS is free as in $0.00. "It's true that adoption of unpaid Linux like CentOS is booming, and that this no-cost alternative to more expensive solutions like Red Hat is a real threat to Red Hat. This is no doubt why Red Hat has made "free-to-paid" a core element of its ongoing strategy, as related in its recent earnings call. "But it's a...
