What happens when unmirrored ZIL log device is removed ungracefully
Due to recent experiences, and discussion on this list, my colleague and I
performed some tests:
Using solaris 10, fully upgraded. (zpool 15 is latest, which does not have
log device removal that was introduced in zpool 19) In any way possible,
you lose an unmirrored log device, and the OS will crash, and the whole
zpool is permanently gone, even after reboots.
Using opensolaris, upgraded to latest, which includes zpool version 22. (Or
was it 23? I forget now.) Anyway, it''s >=19 so it has log device removal.
1. Created a pool, with u...

How do I clean up corrupted files from zpool status -v?
Hi Folks..
I have a system that was inadvertently left unmirrored for root. We were able
to add a mirror disk, resilver, and fix the corrupted files (nothing very
interesting was corrupt, whew), but zpool status -v still shows errors..
Will this self correct when we replace the degraded disk and resilver? Or is
there something else that I''m not fin...

Dell mirror raid boot problems
...for a mirrored raid configuration.
I was able to install Centos 5.2 without difficulty, but when it was
time to perform the 1st boot it went to grub instead of booting off of
one of the mirrored drives.
I could not figure out how to boot through grub, so I changed the bios
to look at both drives unmirrored. At that point I was able to boot to
one of the drives, and the second drive was not mounted.
The raid logic is within the bios and mother board of the Dell machine.
Can any of you point me to some literature about making this system work
as a mirrored raid system.
Thanks,

problem with swap and upgrade to 4 from 3.3
...ble swap prior to the RAID
subsystem, without any errors. So I guessed this might be a problem
with the ram disk image, so I created a new one using mkinitrd, but the
swap still fails at startup, thus preventing me from using the CDs to
upgrade the box.
I guess I could set the swap back to an unmirrored set, run the upgrade
from the CDs then mirror it again, but this is not ideal, does anyone
have any suggestions as to how to fix this little RAID niggle with the
swap caused by not RAIDing the swap parition originally on install?

questions about zil
I recently got a new SSD (ocz vertex LE 50gb)
It seems to work really well as a ZIL performance wise. My question is, how
safe is it? I know it doesn''t have a supercap so lets'' say dataloss
occurs....is it just dataloss or is it pool loss?
also, does the fact that i have a UPS matter?
the numbers i''m seeing are really nice....these are some nfs tar times

"zfs hold" and "zfs send" on a readonly pool
Hello, all.
I''m in the process of repairing a corrupted unmirrored rpool,
and my current idea was to evacuate all reachable data by "zfs
send" to the redundant data pool, then recreate and repopulate
the rpool with copies=2.
As I previously wrote, my machine crashes when trying to
import the rpool in any sort of read-write mode, however I
got it to...

Proposal: multiple copies of user data
Here is a proposal for a new ''copies'' property which would allow
different levels of replication for different filesystems.
