shoutcast to icecast2 issues
relaying a shoutcast stream via icecast2 is pretty much unlistenable -- it constantly stutters. for example, shoutcast relay -- http://205.188.234.1:8030/listen.pls icecast2 relay -- http://liveradio.indymedia.org:8001/sf-hifi.mp3.m3u --mark --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ icecast project homepage: http://www.icecast.org/ To unsu...

vbr and music
...gg is the first minute of an ogg created from the source media (in 44khz stereo). The rest have been mixed down to mono and resampled to 16khz. The fixed-bitrate recording at quality 5 is fairly listenable, but the VBR encoding drops the bitrate down to where the artifacts make it almost entirely unlistenable. -- Matthias Granberry matthias@utdallas.edu (469) 371-0596 --- >8 ---- List archives: http://www.xiph.org/archives/ Ogg project homepage: http://www.xiph.org/ogg/ To unsubscribe from this list, send a message to 'speex-dev-request@xiph.org' containing only the word 'unsubscri...

anyone know of a list or wiki for GWC?
...k it can be taken completely out. One of the really annoying things I remember about GWC was how it reacted to music featuring a bass trombone. The entire passage was detected as several million little clicks. When GWC got done, it sounded like the musician was playing through a fan. Totally unlistenable. Audacity's click filter can be adjusted to not do that. -- Bill Gee

I guess I still don't understand what you mean by "Ignoring the fact that I am not doing anything special with the MID channel samples". libFLAC will always give you the L/R channels to your read callback. for M/S frames, it will convert the samples to L/R before calling the wri...

Icecast and LiveIce-XMMS Working!
...iveIce and Icecast working. Everything is working so I wanted to get the archives updated with the solutions. The first was just my player I was streaming to needed a much larger buffer configured (stupid, but I'm just starting up with streaming). The problem I had with LiveIce streams being unlistenable was due to the wrong input stream being selected on the LiveIce box (again, stupid). Finally, what I really wanted was to run LiveIce-XMMS since I have a jukebox app that plays via XMMS. It used to be that as soon as I enabled LiveIce-XMMS that XMMS would core. Happily after upgrading to the...

bitpeeler
...*my* compiler, the source tarball I downloaded reduces every packet to zero bytes, which isn't terribly interesting. I decided to set the byte reduction to something constant: I started by dividing each packet's size by 2 just to see what would happen. The resulting ogg file was basically unlistenable. Yes, it sounded like the original music, but there were *terrible* artifacts throughout the music, mostly sounding like constant-frequency tones overlaying the music, each lasting for a short fraction of a second. At 2/3 of the original bitrate, the artifacts were still almost as bad. By con...

Decoding Type=Independent
Hello, I am new to the list, to FLAC and to FLAC development but I am having a problem in trying to make FLAC work with MediaMVP based the mvpmc project (ref. http://www.wvpmc.org) that hopefully someone can help me with. This device is possibly minimum spec. for a FLAC decoder. In any case, I have had some success cross-compiling libFLAC (without the ogg or metadata modules).for the embedded

anyone know of a list or wiki for GWC?
Hi! totally OT... Hoping there is a mailing list or wiki (or other help forum) for GWC, but haven't found one yet. I'm working on converting a bunch of my LPs to CDs, and am using GWC (Gnome Wave Cleaner, or GTK Wave Cleaner) to clean up the noise. It works great, but I can't figure out how to deal with certain types of pressing flaws that create a thump every time around. Anyone

RC2 worse than RC1 and Beta4
After doing an informal (128k) listening test, I have concluded that I prefer Beta4 over RC2. The 16kHz low-pass on the RC2 encoder makes it sound like FM radio. Both encoders SEEM to have a couple of dB bump at 10kHz.
