RHEL3, winbind, "Error looking up domain users"
Hello, I've been attempting to get this working all day. :) I have an RHEL3 machine connected to a Windows 2000 PDC as a domain member. I'm running samba 3.0.21c, compiled from an SRPM: # rpm -q samba samba-3.0.21c-1 When I try to list my users, I get this: # wbinfo -u Error looking up domain users Exit 1 Similarly, `getent passwd` fails to show any SMB users. But `getent passwd

problems with making Samba authenticate off of domain server
starting from here: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#wdcsdm I follow all the instructions including using the samba configuration found in: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#ch0-NT4DSDM making obvious changes for workgroup, domain etc. The join succeeds but the wbinfo -u test fails. yes, I verified that all...

is winbind needed if i provide unix attributes?
...end without any problems. my objects contains both sambaSamAccount and posixAccount (and shadowAccount) with uid, gid, homedirectory, etc. i'm setting up another samba server just for file services. in official docs says i must set up winbind: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#ch9-sambadc but if i've already got uids and gids i guess i need no mappings. is this right? can i ignore winbind in my setup? regards, abosch

FreeBSD 7.2 domain member problem
...ng LDAP, but idmap_rid. I have properly configured nsswitch.conf. Joining to domain and wbinfo -u work OK, but when I try pw show user -a I get only user accounts of FreeBSD. So, I cannot set owners, ACLs... My main source is Samba guide chapter 7: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#id2597100 All tests from Procedure 7.4 of the guide, except getent (eq. to pw show user -a) work OK. It seems that FreeBSD does not use nsswitch. What should I do or what I am missing? Thanks in advance fro your help. -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/FreeBSD-7.2-domai...

Samba, AD and non AD Machines
Hi All, I have configured Samba 3.0.23 to work with Active Directory. Based on all the tests shown here: http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#adssdm Things are working as expected. Most machines and users are working as expected. I do have some Windows machines on another subnet, NOT joined to the domain that are giving me grief. Going to Start->Run->\\ip.of.samba.server I get the following error: The format for the comput...

Configuring Samba with LDAP
Hello, I'm having problems configuring Samba to work using ADS. I've successfully compiled LDAP. When I try ./configure --with-pam --with-winbind --with-ads --with-krb5 --with-ldap It says "Active Directory support requires LDAP support" Are there any variables that need to be set? I've done --with-ldap=/usr/local/openldap (This the prefix for openldap). I'm

...samba.org and did quite a bit of Google'ing and haven't found an answer to the problems. Basically I used the configuration illustrated in this section of the howto, and of course a number of other suggestions I've found along the way: http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#adssdm Here's some of the details of my config: rpm -qa | grep samba samba-common-3.0.10-1.4E samba-swat-3.0.10-1.4E.9 samba-client-3.0.10-1.4E samba-3.0.10-1.4E.9 rpm -qa | grep krb5 krb5-libs-1.3.4-33 krb5-devel-1.3.4-33 pam_krb5-2.1.8-1 krb5-workstation-1.3.4-33 What happens is that...

Can't login from Windows PC to Samba using ADS?
...running SuSe 8.2 Linux on an IBM 1 gig processor at work. I installed samba 3.0.5 on it and followed the instructions in the online book "Samba-3 by Example" for chapter 9 "Active Directory Domain with Samba Domain Member Server <http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#adssdm>" to the tee (of course it is for 3.0.2) and have every thing working except for W2K pc cannot authenticate? Oh yeah, I also went the steps in the troubleshooting guide but couldn't get the step "net use x: \\mysamba\web" to add. I can 'net view \\mysamba&...

Permissions Problem using ADS
I am running Samba 3.0.3 on a Red Hat Linux 9 server (Intel based). I am using the procedures outlined in a document found at http://de.samba.org/samba/docs/man/unixclients.html. My Samba server is to be a Member Server in a W2K Active Directory (AD) domain. The procedures for this begin on page 13. I perform all steps outlined and get similar results. On the Samba server, I created a folder called /shares/test and, using SWAT, shared it with the share name of adm...

(no subject)
Hi Has anyone successfully integrated SLES 9.1 into Active Directory using Samba 3 , such that the AD users log onto the directory and gain access to resources on the SLES server as if it were just another Windows server. I am a total newbie but with the help of the fantastic Linux community managed to get myself to the point where the SLES box is in AD but if I want AD users to gain access to

Join Samba Server to Windows 2003 domain
There seems to be hundreds of ways to skin this cat but I can't seem to find anyone who describes a complete process to make it work. I am using Fedora 5 and the latest build of Samba 3.0. My end goal is to have the samba server be a member of the windows 2003 domain and AD users be able to ssh into the server. Thanks, George

I am testing w/ a PC loaded w/ Centos 5 and Samba (whatever version it came with) I have not had any luck with connecting WinXP clients to it (or anything for that matter) I think my problems stem from not joining the domain correctly. builtin groups in samba 3.0.28
hello, i'm configuring a member server (samba 3.0.28) to add it to a domain with one PDC and several BDC (all of them 3.0.20b). This server is using NSS/LDAP as explained at: http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html#sdcsdmldap i'm also using the idmap domains configuration options (which are newer that the above example) to resolve the user id mapping, Samba seems starts with no errors, but when i try to mount a share i can see the following lines in the machine log file: [2008/02/07 20:01:16, 0, ef...

Ldapsam:editposix: How to continue once it's setup
Hi to everybody, I managed to setup ldapsam:editposix for Debian Lenny as described here: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix and had the impression that in order to add a Samba Unix client, it would be best to continue here: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/unixclients.html However, in the ldapsam:editposix tutorial, the Administrator is mentioned instead of root (judging from what I've read so far, the Administrator user is only used for "real" Windows client PCs). My smb.conf is setup so that no NetBIOS stuff is used (no wins, only port 445, net...
