Multiple password servers/domains
...I have been able to allow multiple server authentication in different
domains, but running different configurations based on what the machine
is called when attempting to mount (unfortunately, this is confusing to
the end users). In the example below, I use password server ntserver1
if mounting \\unix1\myshare. To use password server ntserver2, you
would mount \\unix2\myshare. I'm pretty sure that the workgroups are
not needed for this to work.

Initial connection after reboot is sluggish
...months and then
recently we upgraded to 2.2.3a and did not keep track of the changes we
made to the smb.conf file so we dont know what we did to change it's
behavior. There are no messages in the logs about a connection failure or
even an event.
Any ideas?

users.map file
In our users.map file we have the following entries:
unix1 = nt1
unix2 = nt2
unix3 = @unixgroup3
unix4 = @unixgroup4
When we create shares on the samba server, we assign the valid users as
@unixgroup3 or @unixgroup4. For whatever reason, if a share has @unixgroup4
as the valid users entry, we cannot connect to it from the nt side. If we

Samba and Solaris automounter.
...this
case, it was was far worse: it did an NFS mount of all the files in
a large directory!
He solved this by setting the -nobrowse option on /net in /etc/auto_master,

| A small price to pay for not having to wait while my server makes all the

Start smbd and nmbd daemons on other HP Unix (version 10.20) serv er
Hi everyone,
I would like to know if it's possible to start the smbd/nmbd daemons from an
other HP Unix server. The installation of Samba has been made on a RAID
mounted on an other Unix server (the main one).
We want to do that because whe need to reduce the working flow in the main
server.
Thanks
Daniel Comtois, Unix Tech.

locking.tdb - Failed to open byte range locking database
i have taken a default intel redhat 7.2 machine which came with
samba 2.2.1a and removed samba, samba-common, samba-client and
samba-swat.
i also removed /etc/samba and /var/lock/samba and all samba log files
i then installed the samba RPM for samba 2.2.5 from:
http://se.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/redhat/RPMS/7.2/samba-2.2.5-
1.i386.rpm
i then installed this with rpm -ivh

ip restrictions in smb.conf question
i would like to restrict access to a samba server by ip address
i normally do this with the "hosts allow" parameter and can happily
restrict to just one class c network eg,
hosts allow = 163.1.2.
but what if i want the above class c but not all of it eg, i want from
163.1.2.100 to 163.1.2.200
it doesnt seem practical to have a line:
hosts allow = 163.1.2.100, 163.1.2.101, etc
