fitting distributions
Hi; I would like to fit a contiuous right skewed dist. to a set of data. So, I want to use MLE or Robust estimation of the parameters, then use A-D or K-S test or Robust alternative for the goodness-of -fit. Also I would rank the fitted distributions according to the p-value of the test. Does anyone know how I do this in R. any backages of Robust estimation and for goodness-of-fit? Thank you

mgcv::gam error message
Hi Could anyone please tell me what to do to resolve this error message? I tried to run a gam with the mgcv package and got the following error: "Error in qr.qty(qrc, sm$S[[1]]): NA/NaN/Inf in foreign function call (arg 5)" (I have 116 covariates, I'm using the "cr" basis to speed things up, the binomial family and, where necessary, have set the required k to lower than

Predicting ordinal outcomes using lrm{Design}
Dear List, I have two questions about how to do predictions using lrm, specifically how to predict the ordinal response for each observation *individually*. I'm very new to cumulative odds models, so my apologies if my questions are too basic. I have a dataset with 4000 observations. Each observation consists of an ordinal outcome y (i.e., rating of a stimulus with four possible

Sweave output from print.summary.glm is too wide
Hi all I am preparing a document using Sweave; a really useful tool. But I am having a problem. Consider this toy example Sweave file: \documentclass{article} \begin{document} <<echo=TRUE,results=verbatim>>= options(width=40) # Set width to 40 characters hide <- capture.output(example(glm)) # Create an example of the problem, but hide the output summary(glm.D93) #

Winbindd needs 5 minutes to work after reboot
I'm using winbind for authentication agains Windows 2003 server here at the college. The system has successfully joined he Windows domain and domain logins works wonderful 5 minutes after booting. NTLM and RDR Security Signatures
Hello, I've been using samba to share files on a Redhat server within a windows NT domain. Recently, security policies in the domain have changed, and security signatures are required for the LanManServer and Rdr services. Now that this has been deployed, I get an error when I try to connect to the SMB shares on the Redhat server from Windows hosts saying "account is not authorized to log

Polychor() - why does it take that long?
Hello. Using the polychor function > polychor(data[c(s1,s2)] ) for polychoric correlations of two ordinal variables in R takes a long time for N=7000 (20 minutes+) and significantly slows down my computer. Now, I have a pretty old computer, but it takes about 20 seconds for MPLUS to print out the complete polychoric correlation matrix for all 16 variables, while I am running the R function

Problems with Port Forwarding and Password auth
Secure FTP through SecureFX 1.8B3: issues (Using OpenSSH 2.1.1p2) I downloaded the latest SecureFX because it now claims support for OpenSSH. I'm like cool, now I'll finally be able to secure my ftp on my gateway. First off, I really like the new configure. Everything went ok, I could ssh into the box just fine. Unfortunately ftp didn't work work through SecureFX. I would get

I would like to implement a samba file server that authenticates of our existing ldap server. Would the best solution be to have samba authticate off of ldap through pam. Is this even available. Can anyone point me in the right

R correct g77 flags for Linux/Alpha (PR#208)
Hello, I was trying to compile R-base-0.64.1 on Linux/Alpha (RedHat 6.0). It compiled but it couldn't pass the make check (choked with tests/Examples/modreg-Ex.R). I used gdb, and it turned out that the src/library/modreg/src/sinerp.f was the problem. else if(j.eq.nk)then c1 = 0d0 c2 = 0d0 c3 = 0d0 endif > p1ip(1,j) = 0d0-

second y-axis in lattice xyplot
Dear R-help, I recently discovered lattice xyplot, but have been struggling with plotting a second y-axis. I am able to do this with plot() but can't figure it out in xyplot. Any help would be appreciated. I have found help on adding a second Y-axis when the data is all part of the same data frame, but I have two different data frames. Both data sets are being plotted against "Date".

PAM clustering (using triangular matrix)
Hi, I'm trying to use a similarity matrix (triangular) as input for pam() or fanny() clustering algorithms. The problem is that this algorithms can only accept a dissimilarity matrix, normally generated by daisy(). However, daisy only accept 'data matrix or dataframe. Dissimilarities will be computed between the rows of x'. Is there any way to say to that your data are already a
