ext3 - max filesystem size
Hi all, I am working with a pc cluster, running redhat el 4, on opteron cpus. we have several bigger RAID systems locally attached to the fileservers; now I would like to create a big striped filesystem with around 15TB. ext3 unfortunatelly only supports filesystem size up to 8TB, do you have an idea if / when this border will be increased ? I already found some discussions on LKML about it ? Which FS would be a goof alternative ? AFAIK xfs is not suported by redhat el 4 ... thanks for any hint, cheers alex

squared euclidean distance
Dear R-Help-Team, I would like to cluster my data using the ward-method. In several papers I read (e.g. Bahrenberg) that it is neccesary to use the "squared euclidean distance" with the ward-method. Unfortunatelly I cannot find this term in r as a method for measuring the distance. Does anybody have an idea? Thanks in advance, Carolin [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Paste and namespace
Hi, my doubt is very simple. I'm sure I've seen someone using something like this before, but unfortunatelly my searches in the archives were useless. Well, I have some objects called after a name that has a number attached to it, varying. Let's say I have: > ls poly1 poly2 poly3 poly4 poly5 poly6 ... I would like to access these objects using a for(), in which I could do something like pa...

Good value for /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes
Hi, what would be a good value for /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes on a Dual-CPU EM64T System with 8 GB of memory. Kernel is 2.6.9-42.0.3.ELsmp. I know that the default might be a bit low. Unfortunatelly the documentation is a bit weak in this area. We are experiencing responsiveness problems (and higher than expected load) when the system is under combined memory+network+disk-IO stress. Thanks Martin Please CC me on replies, as I am only getting the digest. ------------------------------------...

First version of the ActiveX version of DIAX (0.1.0) available for download
...and you will be able to dial from any browser. It works only with IAX2, so you can test it with IAXTEL too (supported, just needed to dial the number). Please send me your feedback and features request for further development of both standalone and ActiveX versions of DIAX. Best regards, Dan P.S. Unfortunatelly it works only on IBM PC compatible computers (not Mac's or Pocket PCs)

Speed issue
Hi all, I am trying to migrate a NetWare file server to samba (on Red Hat 9). My problem is that unfortunatelly samba is somehow painfully slow, when we run DOS programs from it on the client machines. The NetWare server is an ancient machine. P1, probably. The Samba server is P4 3G, 1G RAM, RAID mirroring, etc. We are running and old DOS program on the client machines, and when it's running from the S...

Using IMAP keywords instead of mailboxes for spam with dovecot-antispam
...ul, as false positives can be easily "moved" to original mailbox simply by removing $Junk keyword. I couldn't find a way how to integrate antispam software, like dspam, with dovecot, so that antispam automatically learns ham/spam. I have found Johannes's dovecot-antispam plugin. Unfortunatelly, it doesn't have IMAP keywords support, autolearn is based on folders. Is there any solution for this use case? Origin 7.5 and wine
Hello. I've been trying to install registered Origin 7.5 on wine, using both the default build for SuSE 9.3 and the newest rpm from sourceforge. The installation proceeds flawlessly, everything seems to be fine. The installer finds proper user/institution registration fields. Unfortunatelly, when I start Origin for the first time, the registration window pops up. All the information stored in this window is broken (I mean, the key, the username the institution). Therefore, even if I enter the proper activation key it is not accepted. I may provide screenshot if someone is interes...

Migration and foreign keys
Hi, I''m using the ''rake db_schema_dump'' command to clone the structure of the developement database into the test database. Unfortunatelly, the schema.rb file doesn''t contain any information about the foreign keys of the tables. For this reason all the test that concern about the relations are not working has suposed. Is this a limitation of Rails or am I doing something wrong? (I bet on the second option :D ) Thanks in...

Tools for tree naviguation
Sorry for this out-of-topic message. A while ago, somebody mentioned a software (an R interface xas in development at that time) to graphically look inside classification/regression trees and calculate various statistics on their nodes. Unfortunatelly, I lost the link and do not remember at all the name of the software. Could someone refresh my poor memory,... or perhaps point me on other interesting stuff in this field (no mention of R packages available in CRAN because I know them, of course).
