GAM using R tutorials?
...ork on some data... Are there any resources
providing hands-on tutorial/guide on how to do GAM on data in R?
Specifically, I am not sure about which model to choose, and smooth models
with which effective degree-of-freedom shall I use...
I knew there is a book titled: GAM: an introduction using R. Unfornately our
local library does not have it... so that's not an option given time
constraint.
Thanks a lot for your pointers!
Michael.

How to protect images from public?
Hi,
I''m trying to figure out the best way to protect images uploaded by
users who may wish to keep them private.
For example, if they are uploaded in the default file_column location
(/public/blah/blah/1/) then someone can simply type the URL
http://www.blah.com/blah/blah/1 and get the image.
I can store the images in a non-public directory in the rails app (ie:
/railsapp/images/X/)

DRBD and XEN
...M logical volumes with internal metadatas, there
size is 54G.
The secondary node is an opensuse 10 also but running over xen domain-0.
When i setup drbd, synchronisation starts, but the whole system just
reboots a few seconds after.
I don''t know if the problem is xen or drbd related ? Unfornately I have
no traces on the xen node.
I set "ecbo 60 > /proc/sys/kernel/panic", but it doesn''t seem to be a
kernel panic, but a "xen" panic.
Please help.

Any data table component for rails?
...can sort/search/pagination, but for
large dataset of course need to go server side,
need to pass params[:sort]/params[:search]/params[:pagination]
to server side, which involves a lot of code,
I''ve checked out rubygems.org and found a
datatable project for jquery server side binding,
but unfornately It has dependencies on both
"will_paginate" and "kaminari", which breaks my
activeadmin(I remove will_paginate and modify its code
a little to use kaminari, but seems still have problem, the iTotalCount
becomes nil,
and it doesn''t support subtable?(the main table ha...

Shared Folders?
...everybody (esp. Timo ;)),
in an attempt to replace our cyrus imapd with something less bloated
I have recently evaluated some of the younger imapd implementations,
namely bincimap and also dovecot.
Bincimap didn't work properly with mozilla for me, dovecot hasn't
failed on any test, yet.
Unfornationally, since we have been using cyrus for over 1.5 yrs, we
pretty much depend on the "shared folders"-feature.
Are there any plans to make shared folders available in dovecot anytime soon?
best regards!
