SRP unencumbered license statement available
For those of you who were following the discussion about the new draft
and implementation of SRP-based password authentication in OpenSSH, I
promised to have Stanford issue the IETF an official, explicit,
statement reiterating the unencumbered royalty-free licensing terms.
The new statement is now available from the IETF's IPR page.

Now, 0.6.0 is also the version that just got submitted as an "IPR-free
codec" Internet draft:
http://www.ietf.org/internet-drafts/draft-valin-celt-codec-00.txt
For those who aren't aware of it, there is an ongoing discussion about
creating an IETF working group for standardising unencumbered audio
codecs that everyone can use. There will be a BoF at the next IETF
meeting (26-31 July) in Stockholm to discuss that. I encourage those
interested in taking part in the mailing list discussion (
https://www.ietf.org/mailman/listinfo/codec ) and/or attending the BoF
in Stockholm. I will be co-...

OK, so color me confused about the timing in all this.
Do we update the microcode now or do we wait until the latest
microcode_ctl rpm is available and then tackle this issue?

Improving on Rice coding
Hello,
I am the author of the Bonk audio compression program... i've just been
looking at your comparrison table, and i noticed bonk gets marginally
better compression than Flac on some files (actually i was
rather surprised to see bonk on the list at all, it's not exactly high
profile :-) ).
Bonk in lossless mode is a pretty naive implementation of a predictive
coder, so the main

Question on docs
Just wondering if there was any documentation other than what's on the
FAQ/webpage?
If not, under the section which says how to be able to use syslinux on a
harddrive, it states, "A simple MBR, roughly on par with the one installed by
DOS (but unencumbered), is included in the SYSLINUX distribution"
How do i install this MBR to the harddrive (in my case, I am using a USB drive
partitioned into three.)
I have tried:
dd if=mbr.bin of=/dev/sdb
syslinux /dev/sdb1

Upgrade from Samba 1.9.18p4 to 2.2.8a
...they will have to go back to the drawing board and re-think how Samba is
used.
I suspect that this current configuration is an even bigger security risk
that the exploits that the current version fixes.
Any takers for this one?
Any and all suggestions are extremely welcome.
Thx

While the situation is still in a state of flux, there is a window of

that would also be free, open source, and royalty unencumbered, and that
could become a standard. This grassroots effort is the theora project.

Would an annotated list of such openly usable resources be helpful?
Perhaps if a couple of folk contact me off-list we can try a wiki item and

We asked Henning Schulzrinne (the author of RTP and currently the
RTP/AVG maintainer) about getting a static RTP payload type code
assigned for Speex, since we meet the criteria in rfc1890. He
