[LLVMdev] clang optimizer does not remove unused/uneeded variables(and accesses) from global scope
addition to my last post: http://groups.google.com/group/llvm-dev/browse_thread/thread/afd85c3f303ec2a9 i know that using static on my globals will remove them - no other compilation unit can then extern the vars but my question is - in this closed szenario clang is "directly" producing the exe - isn't clang aware of that the vars are not in use? btw: the microsoft compiler

iscsi-initiator-utils required in 5.6, loads uneeded modules
I just updated one of my virtual hosts to 5.6 and on rebooted I spotted an error about iscsi. Which surprised me, since I don't use iscsi. Yet there it is... % rpm -qf /etc/init.d/iscsi iscsi-initiator-utils-6.2.0.872-6.el5 And they're configured to start iscsi 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off iscsid 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on

disk space issues...any help is greatly appreciated
Hi all, Please pardon my newbie-ness on this issue....I've a / partition which is full (quite suddenly, actually) and I'm not sure how to fix this. I've searched for uneeded logs, etc in /var/log and /tmp to no avail. The system is CentOS 5.2 and is not connected to the internet, serves as a local LAN server running stock stuff...sendmail, dovecot, apache..nothing strange or special going on. I have additional HDDs available if growing the partition is in order (w...

Dell PowerEdge 2950 Sharing NIC IRQ with Digium Card
Hi folks.. just a few weeks ago I wrote this to someone else: ------------------------ We have several 2900s in production as VoIP servers.. no lockups. On every server I go into the BIOS and: * Disable USB * Disabled uneeded things like Parallel, Serial * Put ETH0 on a seperate IRQ from the Digium card And everything's fine. Dell's do NOT have to share IRQs... go into your BIOS and change them ------------------------ And this is still true. However, we recently got a 2950 to use as a VoIP server with a dig...

Administrative suggestions
...ke gastman or astman etc) to obtain an overview of what is currently going on in your PBX. Of course you should also regularly check the log files in /var/log/asterisk and watch their size. Separate your PC network from your VoIP network (see also Quality-of- Service (QoS) issues) Remove all uneeded modules from your Asterisk server. For example if you are only doing ZAP and SIP then specify noload= for MGCP, Skinny in modules.conf. That reduces risks of potential exploits sleeping in those modules Disallow users to work on your Asterisk server. The recently published serious kernel expl...

FLAC 1.2.0 released
Pleas learn how to snip uneeded text from your posts. Version 1.2.0 is a stable release, which had some earlier beta revisions. I'd say it was quite well tested. Furthermore, there's no upgrade risk, as the API is still compatible. FLAC is backwards and forwards compatible. -Ivo

Xen 2.0 and VIA Samuel 2 stepping 03
...from xen 2.0-beta. Apprently mixing xenolinux from one release and xen kernel from another release is a no-no. Other than that there were no problems. Thanks to Rupert Schlick for helping to nail it down. The "noacpi" parameter does not seem to be mandatory. Finally removed a bit uneeded code from patch). I have also attached sample output of booting xen and linux-dom0 on VIA Samuel 2 stepping 03. All in all, patch has been booted with xen 2.0 on: * my via based system * my pentium 3 * Rupert Schlick''s via system In order to repeat this you need: 1...

ASTERISK PACKET ANALYSIS
Hi all, I've analyzed the packet stream resulting from a SIP session through Asterisk, and I found that Asterisk sends a lot of useless messages! In example, it repeats the three way handshake (invite-ok-ack) every time, also when it has just to forward the 'bye' message. Has anyone found the same srange thing? thanks..

Slightly OT: Vim command (or macro) to replace space under cursor by " " (without deleting the following word)
Hi, I'm using Vim to edit some static XHTML pages. I have to (manually) check for non-breakable spaces in my text, and eventually replace simple spaces by the following character sequence: Usually, when I perform the same operation over and over in a text, I do it once, and then repeat it in command mode using [.]. But I can't figure out how to do this here.

[PATCH] Btrfs: fix hole check in log_one_extent
...ded an assert to make sure we were looking up aligned offsets for csums and I tripped it when running xfstests. This is because log_one_extent was checking if block_start == 0 for a hole instead of EXTENT_MAP_HOLE. This worked out fine in practice it seems, but it adds a lot of extra work that is uneeded. With this fix I''m no longer tripping my assert. [PATCH] Btrfs: optimize reada_for_balance
This patch does two things. First we no longer explicitly read in the blocks we''re trying to readahead. For things like balance_level we may never actually use the blocks so this just adds uneeded latency, and balance_level and split_node will both read in the blocks they care about explicitly so if the blocks need to be waited on it will be done there. Secondly we no longer drop the path if we do readahead, we just set the path blocking before we call reada_for_balance() and then we'...
