Feature Suggestion - scp don't decrypt file at destination unecrypt on copy back switch
Hi all,
Please pardon me if this has been discussed already on this list.
I searched on "destination" and did not find a hit.
The problem I am trying solve is having backups on a remote server
that even root cannot not read. I have seen lot's of specialized file
systems and volume drivers for various operating systems. But being
that all files are already scp'd to the

SSH / X11 auth: needless complexity -> security problems?
...oved from future OpenSSH versions.
Please do not remove this feature. On many of the systems I have to
access, I am in that exact same situation--my home directory is on
NFS, and I most emphatically DO NOT want my X11 cookies stored there.
Not only does doing so cause my cookies to cross the wire unecrypted,
but if I then su, I can't access the cookies without special pains
(because the NFS servers in question all map the client's root to
anonymous).
In fact, one of the (many) reasons I'm motivated to replace the rest
of our ssh.com servers with openssh servers is *because* I'll get r...

[Bug 1430] New: Restore support for "none" cipher, i.e., unencrypted connections
...copper is becoming ubiquitous, and even fiber to the
desktop isn't so uncommon anymore. Every computer at my company has a
gigabit NIC plugged into a gigabit switch. In a gigabit environment,
an encrypted SSH transfer using 2.4GHz CPUs, which are hardly slow or
obsolete, is 70% slower than an unecrypted transfer would take.
When I'm transferring a big chunk of data across my corporate LAN, I
don't need for the data to be encrypted. All I need is a way to
initiate the connection securely. SSH can provide that, but it sucks
big time that after the connection is initiated, I have to sit ar...

btrfs vs data deduplication
Hello,
I''ve stumbled upon this article:
http://storagemojo.com/2011/06/27/de-dup-too-much-of-good-thing/
Reportedly Sandforce SF1200 SSD controller does internally block-level
data de-duplication. This effectively removes the additional
protection given by writing multiple metadata copies. This technique
may be used, or can be used in the future by manufactureres of other
drives too.

PCI/DSS compliance on CentOS
I have a client project to implement PCI/DSS compliance.
The PCI/DSS auditor has stipulated that the web server, application
middleware (tomcat), the db server have to be on different systems.
In addition the auditor has also stipulated that there be a NTP
server, a "patch" server,
The Host OS on all of the above nodes will be CentOS 6.2.
Below is a list of things that would be
