Problem accessing a share on a W2008 server via smbclient
Hi We just installed a W server 2008 server as antivirus server. As this server is heavily underused we created a share to backup files from other servers. This share is easily accessed from XP pro Pc's via \\ipadr\share and giving a user/password name on the W 2008 server. We then try to use it from an open suse 9.3 linux server via smbclient. smbclient //ipadr/share -U user%password...

Saving Compile Time in InstCombine
...n the current pass pipeline, and each time it's invoked it checks all known patterns. It sounds ok for O3, where we try to squeeze as much performance as possible, but it is too excessive for other opt-levels. InstCombine has an ExpensiveCombines parameter to address that - but I think it's underused at the moment. Trying to find out, which patterns are important, and which are rare, I profiled clang using CTMark and got the following coverage report: (beware, the file is ~6MB). Guided by this profile I moved some patterns under the "if (ExpensiveCombines)" check, which expectedl...

chan_skinny still maintained?
...d would like to use them with Asterisk. Rather than simply switching to the SIP firmware I thought I'd use these with chan_skinny - partly because this is Cisco's primary firmware and therefore the phones might be more stable, and partly to help test chan_skinny as it seems to be generally underused. (Is functionality identical across both firmwares?) However, I've come across a couple of showstoppers and am not really sure where to go from here. I've raised bugs for both of them (#17680, #17692) and had no response so far - have I perhaps overestimated how much chan_skinny is in us...

Syncing Sysvol
...t waits for event indefinitely. So I think for this to work, you would have to keep a connection open to sysvol on the PDC Emulator at all times. I have never used 'notify', so I am guessing here, the above seems to be the total of the documentation available. It could just be the most underused part of Samba ;-) Rowland

Xapian docs (was Re: Xapian-discuss Digest, Vol 83, Issue 2)
...hat we'd love Xapian to become > really lot more popular but have found that the documentation's a bit > difficult to get into, as is the API. I agree. There are a few gotchas, as well as branch stuff like matchspy that is phenomenally useful, but largely undocumented and therefore underused. (though by the looks of it matchspy is now in core). I actually find the API docs to be a comprehensive reference, which is a great start - I've recently been trying to use various RabbitMQ wrappers for PHP and its incredibly frustrating not being able to look up the syntax for something e...

Tools/mechanisms for the management of access permissions in big filebased datasets
...rstand the meaning of the ACL. Add in ACL inheritance and you?ve got a real mess. Make a facility hidden and complex, and you pretty much guarantee that few will use that facility, and those who do will at times create messes they can?t properly understand. A security mechanism that?s most often underused, misapplied, or both is a bad system. FOSS is good at solving such problems, so the only way I can see that tools to solve this problem don?t exist is that few actually use ACLs, perhaps because of the reasons above. Who here uses ACLs to good effect? Are you using more than just getfacl/setfa...

Replace NAs in a range of data frame columns
Dear all, I'm stuck in a seemingly trivial task that I need to perform for many datasets. Basically, I want to replace NA with 0 in a specified range of columns in a dataframe. I know the first and last column to be recoded only by its name. I can select the columns starting like this a[match('first',names(a)): match('last',names(a))] The question is how can replace all NA

Warning messages: not meaningful for factors
Dear Experts, I need to include the repeated structure in our data set object, recall.sums.df, before using gls function. Thus I used groupedData. But I encountered error messages which may mean '*' is not not meaningful factor. Please let me know what I have to do. Dom0 cpu utilisation irregularly distributed
On some production servers with dom0 kernel 2.6.32 pvops and xen 4.0 and domus mainly windows with gplpv I noticed a strange cpu usage by the dom0 mainly with the use of a single cpu, for example this take from one server: xm vcpu-list Name ID VCPU CPU State Time(s) CPU Affinity ... Even if you don't care about that, you may be interested in knowing more about programming for the Polycom. These phones are way underused IMO. Very slow writes to Samba server
...on a RedHat 5.0 linux box. I'm using a compiled version of samba rather than an RPM. Writing to the server from a win95 machine is VERY slow. 50Mb files take 10+ minutes to write. Reading from the server is as fast as normal. All the hardware involved (server, network, client) is very fast an underused, so I don't think that's a problem. The only thing out of ordinary that I can see is that 'smbstatus' tends to show far more locked files than it did in earlier version, but I was assuming that was simply a change in Samba. Has anyone else experienced this ever? -------- Jon P...

Syncing Sysvol

It would continuously read the output of a "smbclient -c '... notify ...'" process, and when it is notified of a change, then you would sync that changed file. > > It could just be the most underused part of Samba ;-) If you look back at my reply to Joachim's original post, you'll see that this is what I was suggesting; except I wanted to implement it in Python using libsmbclient, rather than in a shell script: https://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2019-July/224347.html > >...

...hmically given the connector properties and a rough description of the mode. Sure, using a fixed list of modes from which you pick the "closest" to the user's settings might be the easiest way to achieve that on some chips [ch7006 does precisely that IIRC], and that might be a slight underuse of the flexibility of some hardware, but the API doesn't force you to do that. > And then there's the Philips TV encoder chip, which has a similar freedom > in programming. > > Of course, given that analog TVs are dying out, the question is how > much effort one should put...

There is the seemingly underused option "package" of help(): help(package = "pkgname", help_type = "html") The vignettes and other documents (including sources of vignettes, etc) are at the top of the html page (help_type is used in case the default for help is text format, when the output is less...
