Snooze energy-efficient cloud manager is available as open-source!
...ploys a self-organizing and healing
hierarchical architecture. Moreover, it performs distributed VM
management and is designed to be energy efficient. Therefore, it
implements features to monitor and estimate VM resource (CPU, memory,
network Rx, network Tx) demands, detect and resolve overload/underload
situations, perform dynamic VM consolidation through live migration, and
finally power management to save energy. Last but not least, it
integrates a generic scheduler which allows to implement any VM
placement algorithms. The system can be either used to manage production
data centers or as a...

oplocks causing more trouble than benefit ?
...e read quite some docs about the
oplocks feature, and I got the impression that while they may improve
performance, they are very complicated and rely on a not so robust
mechanism.
I didn't notice any slowdown after disabling oplocks, but this might be
because our network and fileserver are underloaded.
So my question is: why are oplocks on by default ? Wouldn't it be safer
to turn them off by default and specify under which circumstances they
might give the performance improvements that justify their adoption ?
Thanks in advance.

Astricon Conference Call?
I thought the interesting exercise would be to use asterisk for the
task. Couldn't we use a kind of distributed conference call where a few
key select/high bandwidth asterisk servers form the main conference and
then have multiple layers of conferencing. That way no one
server/network is saturated.
