uniform type indicator
...et/linked/2011/08/05/markdown-uti
i don't know (and don't care about) any possible significance of
such a pronouncement on a "uniform type indicator", but i think
that it's interesting that gruber has decided to make _any_ type
of statement on markdown, with the big moves now underfoot,
and doubly so when he chooses to communicate it via his blog
-- which is public, but has zero public feedback mechanism --
and not also here, where markdown developers hold discussions.
this is not a judgment -- of any type -- merely an observation...

Two EdTech Projects: RoR Dev''er Needed
...39;re able to coalesce in the
online entity.

The second is Explorify!, a project motivated by three related
recognitions: 1) the need to increase students? self-efficacy for
thinking like a scientist 2) the value in engaging students in
exploring and learning about the ?smaller majority? underfoot (the
scientific work of Piotr Naskrecki at the Harvard Museum of Comparative
Zoology) and 3) the value in providing ways for students to playfully
and tangibly explore their world, and share their valuable products with
others.
So this project is designed to engage kids in building instruments...

Operator consoles for large systems
...ator consoles out
there - there's just no way to represent 1600 or so users on a PC
screen, so we'll have to come up with a way of representing only those
users an operator is interested in, and doing so in a way that still
lets them use a mouse (and/or keyboard) without everything changing
underfoot. I'm thinking something like an old air traffic control
strips system for calls requiring service, a "phone finder" to select
where a call is going, and a visible LRU cache of places you may want to
send a call.
2) aggregating manager data from many clustered asterisk machines.

I can respect that much at least, and I'm appreciative for what you guys
are doing over there.. if for no other reason than I'd like to have gotten
out from underfoot of FhG before they come smashing down on me.. getting
out of the way or the RIAA on the other hand is going to be a bigger
problem.. but I'll face that battle when it comes, and just maybe i'll have
made a couple million I can use to defend myself with. ;)

The rates are in arbitration, and I doubt they will come out anywhere
near that amount. It just isn't feasible, even for large companies.
