...for a hash table I could or couldn''t use 2: for a (parent, handle)ID? I also noticed that you type the hashtables like 2:2: can you have more levels with this? like 2:2:2:1: ? and I guess the same question with the parent/handles. thanks again. -- When dealing with a slow pipe, never underestimate the throughput of the postal system. _______________________________________________ LARTC mailing list / LARTC@mailman.ds9a.nl http://mailman.ds9a.nl/mailman/listinfo/lartc HOWTO: http://lartc.org/

coxme in R underestimates variance of random effect, when random effect is on observation level
...tions to check that I could estimate the variance of such random effects consistently with no bias. When the random effect is applied on the group level (shared frailty model), the variance of the random effect can be calculated. When the random effect is on an observation level, it is consistently underestimated. This happens when using both the coxme<https://cran.r-project.org/web/packages/coxme/coxme.pdf> package, and the and frailty<https://www.rdocumentation.org/packages/survival/versions/2.11-4/topics/frailty> statement in coxph. Questions: 1) Why is variance of the random effect unde...

over/underestimating expected packet loss
I'm curious what happens if you feed an inaccurate value to 'expected loss'? Channel loss rate isn't always easy to measure, esp. in real time. I'm trying to figure out, ultimately, is it a better strategy to put the worse case expected loss in there, or more like the best case? (dealing with audio/full bandwidth here) thanks, Marc

There's one minor nitpick inline too. Please also try and wat...

...uncertainty," we're always kidding ourselves and our colleagues because we fail to take into account the considerable variability introduced by our initial subjective exploration and subsequent choice of modeling strategy. One can only say (at best) that the stated model uncertainty is an underestimate of the true uncertainty. And very likely a considerable underestimate because of the model choice subjectivity. Now I in no way wish to discourage or abridge data exploration; only to point out that we statisticians have promulgated a self-serving and unrealistic view of the value of formal infere...

Hey so, People are asking about Mongrel Ruby 1.9 compatibility. Isn''t the point of 1.9 for library developers to have time to get ready for 2.0? It''s not like 1.9 is a production release. Evan -- Evan Weaver Cloudburst, LLC

Great! I'll circle around to this at some point. Despite the "obvious" nature of it I still am wary of underestimating the cruftiness of the buildbots, so I'll probably do it some time at night when the bots are mostly green so that I can easily see if any bots *are* broken by this. -- Sean Silva On Tue, Feb 23, 2016 at 6:55 PM, Chris Matthews <chris.matthews at

Issue in ActiveRecord generated reader methods
Hi all! I have come into a strange issue in Rails that I am hoping someone can shed some light. To make a very long story short, I have been researching how to override ActiveRecord::Base#read_attribute and write_attribute to perform security checks at the model level (influenced by the ModelSecurity generator). Shortly after implementing some code to check this behavior, I began to

Eager load associations in Oracle problem with more than 1000 records
...The problem is that Oracle has a hard limit of 1000 values in an IN clause. I get this error: ''OCIError: ORA-01795: maximum number of expressions in a list is 1000 Of course getting 1000 records in one shot is probably too many; you''d want to paginate. But still sometimes you underestimate the size your db will grow too, and a really slow query is better than one that blows up. Has anyone else noticed this problem and is there a simple solution? I know that I can specify a dummy order by or conditions clause on the included table to force a normal join, but I''d have to chan...
