b89 xVM Source tar bundle is corrupted on the on download site
...the xvm-src.tar.bz2 file had a size of ~ 100 mbytes;
with b89 the size of the downloadable archive is only 72 mbytes.
And bzip2 complains:
% bzip2 -tv xvm-src-b89.tar.bz2
xvm-src-b89.tar.bz2: file ends unexpectedly
You can use the `bzip2recover'' program to attempt to recover
data from undamaged sections of corrupted files.

Now on to creation of disk images
Mr. Heron was so kind to make a suggestion that I should use disk images
to install VMs. Upon further thought, I kinda like the idea. So I
re-read the manual and google a little, and discover I still don't know
what should be in these disk images.
Should I copy the contents of the CDs to a file or what? I've got a test
server at the moment with Centos 5.5 and xen installed as the host

Replace broken host, keeping the existing bricks
...at has become unusable. But they all seem to assume that the bricks of the respective host are gone, too.
My problem is different and (I hope) more easily solved: the disk with the host?s root file system died and cannot be recovered. However, all of its bricks are on separate disks and completely undamaged.
I?m seeking your advice on what is best practice for replacing such a host.
My notion is that it should be possible to setup a new root system, configure it and have it use the existing bricks.
My questions are:
1) Is this a good idea at all or do I miss anything? Would it be better to forma...

Recover files from a broken ext3 partition
...S=FSRX debugfs -s 20480000 -b 4096 sdd5
debugfs 1.42.8 (20-Jun-2013)
debugfs: cd /home/$USER
debugfs: ls
EXT2 directory corrupted
- ------------------------------
So, any hints for me how to proceed? Is there a way to access the
Desktop and Dokumente subdirectories (provided they are themselves
undamaged)?
Also, I interrupted ddrescue for my access attempt (because it takes
really long to get all the still-good sectors from a 200GB partition).
Can debugfs show me where on the disk /home/$USER is located? This
would allow me to instruct ddrescue to concentrate on these parts.
Best regards, Lar...

Mailing List Web Site Problems Corrected
During today''s power outage, the /var partition on my server did not escape
undamaged. I think that I have corrected the problems and that the mailing
list subscription URLs are operational again.

If you don't have a current dump, you may be able to rescue a dump of
tags from a broken notmuch database using:
https://git.xapian.org/?p=xapian;a=blob;f=README.notmuch;hb=refs/heads/notmuch-tag-rescue-hack
That should work if the termlist table is undamaged (as the above
appears to show), and may work even if it's damaged.

Bug in R evaluating a huge instruction (PR#14096)
Hello,
I do not know if i am facing a bug or a mistake (and if it is a bug i do =
not know in which category I can put it on the bug tracker), so I post=20
my message here.
I am trying to use the Morris function from the sensitivity package (but =
that is not the problem). I created a (big) instruction that should=20

Generate bivariate binomial data
Dear all,
Could someone point me to a function or algorithm to generate random
bivariate binomial data?
Some details about what I'm trying to do. I have a dataset of trees who
were categorised as not damaged or damaged. Each tree is measured twice
(once in two consecutive years). The trees can recover from the damage
but the data is clearly correlated. As a (un)damaged tree is more likely

kernel 3.3.4 damages filesystem (?)
Hallo,
"never change a running system" ...
For some months I run btrfs unter kernel 3.2.5 and 3.2.9, without
problems.
Yesterday I compiled kernel 3.3.4, and this morning I started the
machine with this kernel. There may be some ugly problems.
Copying something into the btrfs "directory" worked well for some files,
and then I got error messages (I''ve not

btrfs-raid questions I couldn't find an answer to on the wiki
I''m currently researching an upgrade to (raid1-ed) btrfs from mostly
reiserfs (which I''ve found quite reliable (even thru a period of bad ram
and resulting system crashes) since data=ordered went in with 2.6.16 or
whatever it was. (Thanks, Chris! =:^)) on multiple md/raid-1s. I have
some questions that don''t appear to be addressed well on the wiki, yet,
