Please HELP: rsync to create directory symbolic links
Hi,
Currently I have to recreate the directory tree of my entire database
and also rebuild all directory symbolic links. I just figure out how to
recreate the directory tree without copying all the files over. I used:
rsync -av --include "*/" --exclude "*" gridpt/ $BACKUP/gridpt
This command creates the directory structure (tree) of the entire
database udner gridpt (it

Special use case : "diff" file
Going with just rsync you would have to maintain a local backup as well
then use --write-batch to make a diff file to also upload to your
offsite storage.
Outside of rsync maybe rdiff-backup can do this easier?

rsync from tar
I use rsync to backup an application's file system state to a
repository. Later if we want to refresh a test environment with the
application's file state at that given point in time, we can use rsync
to get the test environment into that state.
Rsync works well for this purpose, but it would be nice if we could
rsync to/from a tar (or other archive format) file. Since our use of
rsync is

Xen bug reports for Xen 4.1 and 4.4 (or even Xen 3.2)
Hi list,
I'm planning to start responding to all bts bugs that we have that are
related to Xen versions before Stretch. There's quite a few of those.
If they're clearly a question about the packaging, like #862408, then I
will skip those for now. But stuff like problems with upstream code or
"I cannot boot my Windows ISO with qemu on lenny" (I just made that up
as example)

Samba 3.4 authentication suddenly very slow.
After a scheduled power outage, with all hosts cleanly shut down, I'm having a bad performance issue on my samba server.
This configuration has worked well for over a year, but after the power outage, attempting to access any share takes over a minute.
net ads testjoin is fine,
wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g returns the correct information.
The shares CAN be accessed, once accessed, read and write

flac-dev Digest, Vol 102, Issue 7
Ralph, for Mac OS you should download either the Unarchiver which is free,
or Entrophy which is what I use, but it costs like $15 I believe, both
support decompressing .7z and Entrophy supports compressing TO .7z

Bug#503046: xen-utils-3.2-1: inadequate error handling for the case of a failure to use a loopback device
Package: xen-utils-3.2-1
Version: 3.2.1-2
Severity: normal
When a DomU is defined as using a file: device the loopback driver will
be used to make it appear to be a regular block device. The loopback
driver will by default only support 8 nodes so this is a limited
resource.

Bug#820807: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64: Xen detects only one CPU when bootet via EFI and grub2
Package: xen-hypervisor-4.4-amd64
Version: 4.4.1-9+deb8u4
Severity: important
Dear Maintainer,
I installed a fresh Debian Jessie amd64 on our new server with Intel
Xeon E3-1270 v5 Skylake CPU and EFI. Linux without Xen boots flawlessly
and shows 8 CPU cores.
I then tried all combinations of Xen 4.4 (with xsave=off for Skylake
support), Xen 4.6 (crashes after a few seconds during boot) and

Bug#799986: xen-utils-common: please create /var/run/xen-hotplug from an init script
Package: xen-utils-common
Version: 4.4.1-9+deb8u1
Severity: normal
With SE Linux it's desirable to give utilities and daemons the minimum
privileges.
That includes not permitting general utilities to create directories under
/var/run.
I think it would be best if /var/run/xen-hotplug was created by an init script
such
as /etc/init.d/xen (or by systemd-tmpfiles when using systemd units).
