What's special about port 19842?
I've had umpteen IPs knocking on this door yesterday. The router blocked them, so it's not a problem, but why that port? Getting to Mate or Xfce
...dn't think to specify NOT Gnome, in thunder. So of course I got it. I've tried several times to force myself to accommodate Gnome3, always with no joy. How do I get Mate or Xfce instead? Related problem: when I become root and tell it "yum update," it figures out a list of umpteen hundred rpms to update, but then runs through attempts at mirrors and keeps failing till it runs out. It failed to connect to my wireless router (or even to find it, afaict). So I plugged it into the router with an ethernet cable. No joy.

R 3.1.0: 'R CMD Sweave' deletes non tex files created upon batch mode exit
...t for dropping R CMD Sweave, rather than fixing it. The bug was introduced in July, 2013, and nobody noticed it because so few people use that feature, and apparently nobody who does use it bothers to test pre-release versions. > I'd say that that cat is out of the bag. There are probably umpteen documents around suggesting "R CMD Sweave". As people use Sweave only sporadically, it could take years before the old usage got stamped out. And anyways, the command format is the obvious way to generate documents in scripts and makefiles, isn't it? -pd -- Peter Dalgaard, Professo...

NMS Opinions
...nt post that mentioned Zabbix inspired me to have a look at them again while I was waiting on something as it?s been a while since I looked at them. Currently, I was using Nagios but had to start using Munin to add some functionality I needed and don?t want to continue down this road of supporting umpteen different packages. Between Zabbix, Pandora and HyperIQ, what would anyone familiar with these have to say. HyperIQ looks rather crippled for the FOSS version, Pandora?s website seems to be down? Maybe they a monitoring solution, heh? Any opinions appreciated! jlc

Wanted: tutorial on troubleshooting SIP issues
For someone that's network-aware, but hasn't sat down and plowed through umpteen SIP-related RFC's and memorized the standards, is there a good primer on troubleshooting SIP issues? I'm seeing a lot of NOTIFY/603 messages on my network between Asterisk and my Sipura 942's, for instance... Not sure what these are... perhaps the qualify keepalives? In which cas...

flac in the filesystem?
...there's no reason why each one should be required to learn about a different format when it's conceptually identical to reading a straight wav file. As someone who's doing development on an application involving digital audio, I can tell you that it's a pain spending time supporting umpteen different formats when each of them has a command-line encoder that understands wav just fine (but alas, that's what users want...). I really appreciate the suggestion to LD_PRELOAD, thanks. Joshua -- Joshua Haberman <joshua@haberman.com>

[LLVMdev] [CFA] Target Specific Tests
...MCJIT folks, etc) should also probably run them locally on their > machines and try to move their tests to the best category they think it > makes sense. I'm assuming you mean run any test you're creating on a selection of triples to make sure it's OK here, rather than rebuilding umpteen times with just one target enabled. It's a little ad-hoc, and edging towards onerous, but would improve matters. I wonder if some option to llvm-lit that runs tests multiple times over different targets could be useful? It could give a better sense of safety over existing tests as well as new...

parallel max, min, and median of dataframe columns
Hello, all, I have a dataframe of three rows and umpteen columns. I want to show the maximum, minimum, and median with a vertical line and a central dot (I'd use a boxplot, but with only three data points, that's overkill; I can't just use points, because of overlap and some of the other data plotted on the graph). This works: > boxp...

[LLVMdev] [CFA] Target Specific Tests
Hi all, There were some discussions about target specific tests breaking on other targets, so I did a simple test: compiled LLVM with a single target and ran all the tests. Here are some results for random targets: ARM: Unexpected Failures: 334 PowerPC: Unexpected Failures: 340 Mips: Unexpected Failures: 334 X86: Unexpected Failures: 0 Most of them LLVM-Unit, Execution Engine, Codegen,

Conflict with Ctrl key in MacOS?
...ly. But pretty soon the MacBook started to show an irritating habit of making every mouseclick a right-button click, regardless of which button was pressed. The behaviour was somehow connected to the Ctrl-key. Pressing that key would momentarily solve the problem. After re-installing the system umpteen times, and systematically excluding applications, I have now a growing suspicion that it is my Wine-based NoteTab at the bottom of it. Mac computers have for historic reasons (i.e one button mouses) used Ctrl as a a switch between left- and right-click. At the same time, my Windows application inte...

Sites And Services Setup
Another old thread I’m resurrecting; apologies, but I have also been experiencing this issue. I have 10 international remote sites over very lossy WAN links. Getting traffic to them from HQ is a challenge; them trying to talk directly each other over umpteen paths is even worse. They are able to accomplish this (somewhat) because we have a mesh VPN setup with direct site-to-site connectivity, but I constantly have replication failures on almost all my S4 DC’s because of this. As far as I can tell, S4 is ignoring disabling the “Bridge all Site Links” b...

I would like to update to the latest library versions regularly (as 2.15.1 for Windoze in a VM box on this machine does fine). Clearly I don't understand something and am doing something wrong. Please can someone enli...

[LLVMdev] Are global variables candiates for register allocation?
Thanks, Reid. I'm not an optimization expert, but as a workaround, can I do the following: void myFunction() { int local = global; .. use local ... } ? How do i "talk" to the IAXy...? (Newbie Alert)
...IAXy besides using special utility software that needs to be compiled under UNIX? Here is the story: about two months ago, after some not very satisfactory attempts at using SIP (my phone adapter and router don't seem to be able to handle SIP's special requirements for free passage through umpteen ports), i decided to try out hat i think is the conceptually better alternative anyway, IAX, and signed up with "Diamondcards", a phone service provider using the IAX protocol. And today the post office delivered the IAXy adapter that i ordered from Digium (i had it shipped surface mail s...

Samba/LDAP documentation
...ke to exchange notes about the official Samba 3 LDAP doco. I'd like to do this off list, since doing it on list would simply confuse and confound users wit perfectly working systems. Background: Me, Samba relative newbie, though I can get *everything* Samba-orientated to work simply by using umpteen years Unix experience. Many years as Openldap admin. With Windows it's worse, since I'm beginning again after many years' absence - but it all works if I try hard enough and follow the docs (but more importantly my own intuition. Windows stinks, since changes in subversions nullify the...

[LLVMdev] Ninja (make replacement)
...the > user knows how to run a build. IMO, Mikael's efforts are on-target and very useful, and the level of detail is close to "right". Windows builds for almost any tool are, despite many of our most fervent desires, still very much different from linux builds. There are umpteen different variants on exactly which shims to select to make them work in the windows universe, and guidance through that maze is quite useful even to people familiar with all the options. In particular, the "it currently doesn't work with such-and-such" potentially saves fals...
