Opinion on hardware (computer) for an Asterisk Server!
Hi list, I'm about to install Asterisk on an Old HP NetServer LC2000 Server (year 2001), it has 2 Pentium III 1GHz CPUs (Coppermine FSB 133MHz 256K L2 Cache), 768MB PC-133 ECC RAM, 3 UltraSCSI LVD2 18.2GB 10K RPM HDD in RAID5, 100Mb NIC for server. This Server will support 35 SIP phones (users) and 10 FXO ports (for telco lines) and 2 FXS ports (internal analog phones) with a Sangoma Remora A400 PCI card. What do you think? is this hardware enough for this setup??? Thanks in advance...

Asterisk Works on Linux on Sparc
I have built Asterisk on SuSe Linux 7.3 on an Ultra 2 Sparc WorkStation. I am listing the modification I had to do for the benefit of anybody else who wants to use Asterisk This workstation is equipped with one 400 MHz RISC UltraSparc II CPU, 256 MB RAM, Two 9 GB 10,000 RPM UltraSCSI Disks. I have a gatekeeper running on this machine, I had to do the following modification to build * on Sparc: 1. Modify Makefiles and replace all instances of "-march=*" with "-mv8" 2. Comment out lines containing "k6opt" from asterisk/codecs/gsm/Makefile. 3. Copy...

External SATA drive enclosures + ZFS?
...extra disks to the D1000 but appropriate disks seem to be rare/expensive especially when $/GB is factored in to the equation. Assuming my proposed enclosure would work, and assuming the use of reasonable quality 7200 RPM disks, how would you expect the performance to compare with the differential UltraSCSI set up I''m currently using? I think the DWIS is rated at either 20MB/sec or 40MB/sec, so on the surface, the USB attached drives would seem to be MUCH faster... Can I trust ZFS?
Hey folks, I guess this is an odd question to be asking here, but I could do with some feedback from anybody who''s actually using ZFS in anger. I''m about to go live with ZFS in our company on a new fileserver, but I have some real concerns about whether I can really trust ZFS to keep my data alive if things go wrong. This is a big step for us, we''re a 100% windows
