Ultrabook for CentOS?
Hello, I need to buy an ultrabook. Any recommendations for something that would work out of the box more or less? I do not want a Chromebook (or anything ARM) or one of these new "touch" laptops, in fact I'm after a nice matte screen. Budget is modest-ish (?500/$800) so dont go crazy. :) Thanks! -- Sent from the...

Related to the new laptop question: CentOS on a netbook?
I've got a netbook, circe 2009. When I got it, not that I was wild about ubuntu, but there was specifically an ubuntu netbook remix. Well, it's a few years later - has anyone put CentOS (6, preferably) on a netbook, and were there any problems? mark

Any CentOS 6 Issues on Lenovo Y700?
Don't flame me, but I really recommend using Ubuntu on laptops. If you really want CentOS, you should go with version 7. Many new laptops won't work well with that either though. CentOS 6 only works well these days on older hardware or on virtual machines. On Apr 27, 2016 7:27 PM, "Brian Bernard" <brian.brianbernard at gmail.com> wrote: Hi all, I'm looking at buying

Related to the new laptop question: CentOS on a netbook?
...put CentOS (6, preferably) on a netbook, and > were there any problems? 'netbook' is a mostly obsolete category, they were just low power 1st/2nd generation Atom 10" notebooks with 1024x600 screens and 1-2GB max ram, painfully slow. They've been largely superseded by the Ultrabook category of 13" ultra-slim ultra-light notebooks. I'd expect the only major compatibility issue with any of these would be the wifi adapter. Most of these small format consumer machines don't even have an ethernet port. Otherwise, they are pretty much bog stock Intel based arch...

The only catch here is: I run FreeBSD (10.3), but still I would agree: it will be a good idea to check how the screen is connected. E.G., if it is DVI, then it should be dual link DVI cable, not just regular one... Valeri ++++++...

Fwd: CentOS on new Dell

Hi Milos, The Thinkpad T series and Latitude are *very* similar computers. They are both business "ultrabooks" with a 1600x1080 display option, nice keyboards (not "chicklet" style), a trackpoint and trackpad and RJ-45 builtin. I bought a Dell Latitude E7470 over the Lenovo for several reasons. One is this comment which is worth mentioning again: On Fri, Sep 30, 2016 at 11:58 PM, Gordon M...

Suggestiong for a tablet computer to run Centos-6/7?
I have an iPad Air. Nice kit and good battery life but experience has shown the iPad is just a little too opaque and network dependent for my taste. I was wondering if there existed a similarly sized/robust tablet that can run CentOS-6/7 that anyone would recommend? I am looking from something that I can take on international trips that I can scrub on a regular basis. But, I also desire the

...buntu-kernel. ) 3rd... ...I switched over from autoconf/make to cmake/ninja build-system when building LLVM/Clang v3.8. With "compile-jobs=2" and "link-jobs=1" I could reduce my build-time down to 01h30m. ( Higher values produce here MCE errors - bad heat cooling in my Samsung Ultrabook. ) Interesting for me is the fact that my install-dir was reduced about 250MiB when building with clang-3.8 compared with gcc-4.9. Numbers and values see post-scriptum and attached scripts (I splitted into "make/autoconf" and "cmake/ninja"). So, I have now a good base when LL...

Laptop for CentOS
Hello, Has anyone used the Dell M3800 (ubuntu) laptop to run CentOS 6.x? If so how did it work out? Also does anyone have a fairly new laptop they are running CentOS 6.x on, that they are happy about? I am in the market for a new laptop and it must run CentOS 6.x. Thanks, -- Stephen Clark

CentOS on new Thinkpads
I've had success on "older" model Lenovos.....(T-410 / T-420 / T-430) but anything beyond those seems to have some issue or another. I was even able to swap the standard drive to an SD (250GB) on a T-430 and it's running g like a champ. A lot of the newer stuff is OK as long as you don't have any boutique drivers for video network or sound. YMMV. On Sep 29, 2016 9:18 PM, John
