LDA and auth-userdb socket permissions
Hi,
just wanted to check this as the wiki seems to have contradictory
information. With respect to running the LDA as multiple UIDs the wiki
says:
If you're using more than one UID for users, you're going to
have problems running dovecot-lda, as most MTAs won't let you run
dovecot-lda as root
But in the example for the config file the text reads:

rsync not preserving permissions
Hi,
I am running the following command, it is "pulling" the files
across from a read-only configured rsync server via ssh. The command
runs as root and I use the -p option to preserve permissions but files
with non-root owners are being created/updated as root owned. Can
anyone explain whats wrong and if I can do anything to fix this?

libwrap does it work on in 2.0?
Hi,
I noticed recently that libwrap (TCP Wrappers) is supported,
although disabled by default, in the current Dovecot 2.0 but doesn't
seem to be mentioned anywhere on the wiki. Is this working well/at
all? Anyone care with experience using this care to share their
experiences? My OS is FreeBSD, I noticed on some Linux distributions
there may be issues, but this won't affect

Samba over Ssh, prob with Windows
Hi list,
this is actually an issue with Windows but maybe someone knows the
answer from experience. I want to tunnel Samba via Ssh, so I have
attempted to stop all conflicting services on the local Windows
machine (windows vista sp2). In the end the only service I have
stopped is "Server" but when I check netstat -a the system is still
listening on port 139. Can anyone

Dovecot 2.0 config bug with SSL certificate per protocol?
Hi,
yesterday I upgraded Dovecot from 1.2 to 2.0.11. I'd seen that there was
a config file converter to make the upgrade smooth so was expecting it to
be pretty quick and easy. In the end I spent a long time trying to get it
working as it just wouldn't listen on the ssl ports, imaps and pop3s. I am
using per portocol SSL certificates, as I was in version 1.2. The part of

Incremental file updates over a network, NFS?
Hi list,
can anyone point me at some consise info on when rsync is capable of performing incremental updates
of binary files? I need to rsync over a network, and currently I have this over an NFS share but I suppose
that even if binary updates are possible there not going to do much good as reading the remote file over
NFS to check what needs to be updated will use the same bandwidth as copying

New install authentication probs
Hi,
Im attempting to configure dovecot for the first time, Im trying to
use a MySQL DB that is currently used by tpop3d as Ive read they
support the same password format.
My main prob currently, apart from that it doesnt work lol, is that
Ive enabled the following debugging in dovecot.conf
auth_debug = yes
auth_debug_passwords = yes
auth_verbose = yes
But Im getting basically zero info
