smbmount deprecated - what about Windows 9x?
...9x clients
the system (kernel) tells me
smbfs is deprecated and will be removed from the 2.6.27 kernel. Please
migrate to cifs.
But at least Win9x seems not to like cifs. Mounting via smbfs works
since years, mounting (with the same options) via cifs produces several
error messages. The ugliest is
no such file or directory
and "strace" shows that mount.cifs (or some subroutine) doesn't accept
the share. It finds the other server ...
Can I use "smbmount" even with kernel 2.6.27 (or newer)? May be cifs is
better, but I need to mount Win9x shares.

Strange uninstall issue - privileges.
Pretty much the title says it all... I'm having a real hard time trying to uninstall a game (Gabriel Knight 3) with Uninstaller, every time I try to I'm greeted with a nice Windows dialog that reads:
> The login account does not have the required privileges to remove the selected application. Please use an administrator account
How can that be? Sure, this installation is getting

Proposal for CIRCT incubator project
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the update! This will fix the ugliest hack I have on my build
script.
I know I wasn't doing the nicest thing, but it's nice to see that what I
needed wasn't that far away.
I'll update my scripts and get back to you.
Really appreciate, thanks!

[LLVMdev] Argument Lowering Redux
Hi,
Having just found an ABI conformance bug in a compiler front-end, I am
curious: is the state of target-independent argument lowering in LLVM still
the same as when this thread was taking place?:

That should about do it... Arg :P TY in advance.

SAMBA_VERSION_VENDOR_SUFFIX in VERSION
Kia Ora Samba packagers,
I just wanted to ask nicely if you could fill
in SAMBA_VERSION_VENDOR_SUFFIX in the VERSION file when you build
Samba?
Debian does it like this:
https://salsa.debian.org/samba-team/samba/-/blob/master/debian/rules?ref_type=heads#L163
(that is, a simple sed on the VERSION file)
Likewise if you are a Samba user and use a Samba package that doesn't
do this, can you

Gtkcdlabel + cdlabelgen on CentOS 7 ?
...t.
I downloaded Gtkcdlabel on the project site:
http://gtkcdlabel.sourceforge.net/
The installation process takes you back 25 years, since it amounts to this:
# tar xvjf gtkcdlabel-1.15.tar.bz2 -C /
This installs the application in /usr/bin/gtkcdlabel.py along with a new
desktop entry (and the ugliest icon on the planet).
The application shows OK when running it, but PostScript file generation
fails. I launched it from a terminal by invoking gtkcdlabel.py, filled
out a few fields like Title and Subtitle and then clicked on Preview.
Normally this is supposed to launch the PDF viewer (/usr/bin/ev...

X10 themselves also make some of the ugliest wall switches I have every
seen. Leviton make x10 switches that are _really_ attractive (spouse
friendly in your decor). They also work _much_ better with more consistent
(virtually perfect) control. A much more professional system but be prepared
to pay for the "wife-approved" model. Dep...

Error message when using error.bars(x,add=TRUE)
Hey hey,
I`m analyzing a data set containing the element contentrations of various
samples...
I wanted to construct notched boxplots and got quite ugly results for some
of the boxplots. The notches are often larger then the hinges which resulted
in weird looking edges (even though I`m using a log-boxplot). To avoid this
problem I thought about using "normal" log-boxplots and adding some

Proposal for CIRCT incubator project
Renato, I'm happy to kibitz on the build problems. Cmake seems to be
working well at this point for us, but it took quite a bit to get there and
there are some pitfalls. I'm aware of some namespace issues in mlir, but
haven't gotten around to dealing with them.

sieve_extprograms - run any individual script?
Hello,
i use sieve extension sieve_extprograms to send incoming mail to some

For security reasons it is needed that script-paths etc. are registered

This is my current dovecot.conf

to get info out of those, you need to install MegaCli64 from LSI Logic,
which has the ugliest command lines and output you've ever seen.
I use the python script below, which I put in /root/bin/lsi-raidinfo and
chmod +x it, then run it like this..
# lsi-raidinfo

-- ID | Model
c0 | LSI MegaRAID SAS 9261-8i

what script or command makes the codebooks? (fwd)

Monty gave me a file outlining what he had done to start me off, and
at the end, I attach a section. There are some things you need to do because
the current vq/ is not quite compatible with the current lib/.
I do my retraining with the Ugliest-Bash-Script-Ever-Written, and have it
mostly automatic.

performance of apply
I noticed that apply is VERY SLOW when applied to a "large"
dimension as for example when computing the row sums of a matrix with
thousands of rows.
To demonstrate it, I did some benchmarking for different methods of
computing the row sums of an nx10 matrix with n =3D 2000, ..., 10000.
The first method (M1) I used is the normal apply command:
y <- apply(x,1,sum)
The second method

ZFS and Linux
Hello,
I believe that ZFS and it''s concepts is truly revolutionary to the
point that I no longer see any OS as modern if it does not have
comparable storage functionality. Therefore I think that file
system/disk manager with similar qualities should be written for Linux.
Does Sun have plans to dual license ZFS as GPL so it can be ported to
native Linux?
If not, is it legal to write

Beating the authentication horse (dead yet?)
Guys,
I''m frankly overwhelmed by the number of Rails authentication options(?)
out there...from ActiveRBAC to acts_as_authenticated to LoginEngine and
so on...so many options, yet on resource I''ve found really distinguishes
between each.
This is sad, as authentication and user management is really an area
where some Rails simplicity pixie dust could be a real boon to
