APC Back-UPS ES 700 under FreeBSD
Hi all,
I'm currently trying to install a APC Back-UPS ES 700 on FreeBSD. This
UPS has a usb connection to the PC and is recognized as:
ugen0: APC Back-UPS ES 700 FW:829.D2 .I USB FWD2 rev 1.10/1.06, addr 2
my ups.conf looks like:

port = auto
desc = "server"
When I now run /usr/local/libexec/nut/upsdrvctl start the output is:

I'm running FreeBSD 6.2 with Nut 2.0.5 installed from ports...
I have a TrippLite OmniVS1500XL plugged in, but I'm having little luck with the
tripplite_usb module. I have already built and booted a new kernel with UHID
disabled so that libusb can grab /dev/ugen0.
At first I was able to get the following out of the driver:

Megatec_USB on OpenBSD 4.3 - again...
...ain!
Thanks to the precious help from Henning Brauer, I managed to solve
an issue with my UPS (a rebranded UPS speaking in Ablerex-ese over USB).
Under OpenBSD 4.3, the UPS was claimed by HID. Now that I recompiled the
kernel, adding a USB_quirk, this is what I get when I insert the USB
cable:
ugen0 at uhub0 port 2 "UIS_ABLER USB to Serial" rev 1.00/1.00 addr 2
So far, so good (Henning confirmed this).
Trouble is, when I run megatec_usb:

Two things that stand out:

and
USB error: error reading from interrupt endpoint /dev/ugen0.1: Resource

Some FreeBSD tips (was: OMNIVS1500XL and FreeBSD)
...t user. The FreeBSD port makes a
half-hearted attempt to fix this, but only for serial devices, not USB
devices.
In the following example, I've created a user/group "nut" and am going to
allow the nut user to read/write to one usb port (/dev/usb1) and the
actual UPS device (/dev/ugen0).
add the following to /etc/devfs.conf:
perm usb1 0660
own usb1 root:nut
create an /etc/devfs.rules with the following:
[usb_devices=10]
add path 'ugen*' mode 0660 group nut
add that rule to your startup settings in /etc/rc.conf:

Palm m50x & the USB stack
...n the ugen code?
I've got 5.1-RELEASE on a laptop, I'll check tomorrow if the situation is any
different there (though cvsweb indicates not much has changed, really,
recently, and NetBSD 1.6.1 fails just as miserably as FreeBSD 4.8 in doing
anything with an m500.).

[1] open(/dev/ugen0) open(/dev/ugen0.2) ioctl(/dev/ugen0.2) is pretty much it,
as documented in the pilot-link source.
