TYRE GPS mapping software
Hi,
New to Wine but have been using Ubuntu (Lucid) for a year now with Wine 1.3.0.
My problem is getting a program called URL TYRE (http://www.janboersma.nl/gett/index.php) to run. This is a nice program that allows you to create GPS road routes using Google Maps.
The first time I try to start it TYRE there is some HDD activity but it doesn't run. If I try a second time to launch it there is no HDD activity and it still d...

converting character strings to numbers
...there isn't a better one I
overlooked.
test = c("10,522.5","11,768.9","11,354.3")
as.numeric(test) # fails
as.numeric(gsub(",","",test)) # works
Any suggestions? Or is this as good as it gets? I'm not complaining ...
just curious!

a tab (see http://www.delorie.com/djgpp/v2faq/faq22_17.html). Perhaps worth
warning windoze users like myself of such perils in readme.packages or
somewhere similar!
Now I have a new problem, but it looks fixable.
Thanks for your attention.

[libvirt] [LXC] Tyring to locate livbvirt operations for LXC relocation
Hello,
I am searching for the libvirt operations for relocating LXC (system or
application) containers. LXC relocation mechanism is done by checkpoint /
restart. I went over libvirt API documentation and found the following
methods:
virDomainSave that receives a domain and path to state file. The method
saves domain's memory contents into a disk file.
virDomainRestore that receives a domain

tyring to save plots using windoze 7 and cygwin
Hi,
I'd been using R in the past and recently installed it on a new windoze 7 machine.
There have been many issues with compatibility and 32/64 bit apps etc and I did
find on google on isolated complaint that saveplot failed in scripts a long time ago.
R seems to work fine except script-based plot saving as pdf has not worked.
I have tried the following, none of which seem to function,

Calculating NOEL using R and logistic regression - Toxicology
Hello, I used the glm function in R to fit a dose-response relationship and
then have been using dose.p to calculate the LC50, however I would like to
calculate the NOEL (no observed effect level), ie the lowest dose above
which responses start occurring. Does anyone know how to do this?

newbie nls question
I'm tyring to fit a relatively simple nls model to some data, but keep coming up against the same error (code follows):
Oto=nls(Otolith ~ Linf*(1-exp(-k(AGE-to))),
data = ages,
start = list(Linf=1000, k=0.1, to=0.1),
trace = TRUE)
The error message I keep getting is "Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : could not find function "k"". I've used this

NPTL problem on Centos 4.4
Not sure where to ask this, I've been googling and not finding much that
is helpful.
At work I've got a multi-threaded program targeted at Linux. It compiles
on RHEL 2.1 and 3, and is targeted at 2.1, 3, and 4. UP until today, the
binary built on 3 has worked fine on 4.
But on RHEL4 update 4 it dies a horrible death in pthread_create. I have
reproduced the problem on Centos 4.4, where I

state plugin
hi,
I saw that Mike Dransfield tried to port 'state' plugin from beryl.
What does it do? It should be able to place windows, based on name,
class etc., to specific viewports. I recently converted to compiz window
manager from WindowMaker (used it for 8 years), and I miss automatic
'pinning' of specific windows to particular workspace (or viewport in
this case).

This is not a scientifically meaningful nor defensible definition as
it is stochastic, depends on the test used, design, level chosen, etc.

Samba PDC, ldap or mysql????
Hi all,
I'm under the gun to rid ourselves of the nt4 PDC which we
currently use. options are A/D, samba, pgina. I really dig pgina,
but dont think I can pass citrix credentials properly :( So I'm
left with samba vs A/D. A/D is well,, ummmmm A/D, so tyring to
avoid it.
Currently have used Samba file servers for years.
Have played with Samba PDC with2.2

Asterisk SIP security
I was looking at my CLI the other day, and found a lot of those types of
messages:
NOTICE[2242]: chan_sip.c:14383 handle_request_invite: Call from '' to
extension '0004525551690000' rejected because extension not found.
Looking at the IP, it originated from Asia and was clearly an attempt to
screw with my Asterisk server. My quick fix was simply to block the IP

puppetdb catalog duplication
Hello,
Just kicking the tyres with PuppetDB (1.1.0) on a test setup with 100-odd
nodes running only once an hour by default.
Looking at the dashboard the catalog duplication is showing 0.0% which
seems a little odd to me. Any way to track
down why this is and how to correct it as presumably this is not desired
behaviour....
