PHP SmartyPants Typographer 1.0b2
As I stated before, I had in the work a utility to control spaces around punctuation and at some other places. Now, I've integrated it, with a few extra quote goodies, within PHP SmartyPants, as an extension just like PHP Markdown Extra extends PHP Markdown. And so appeared SmartyPants Typographer (announcement on my weblog) <http://www.michelf.com/weblog/2006/and-so-appeared-smartypants- typographer/> PHP SmartyPants Typographer 1.0 (documentation page) <http://www.michelf.com/projects/php-smartypants/typographer/> PHP SmartyPants (download page) <http://www.michelf.com/pr...

mtext uses the typographical descender to align text
<> Hello One sometimes (quite often really ) marvel at the choice of defaults in R's graphic engine. For some obscure reason, mtext uses the typographical descender (bottom of letters) to align text. That is: "gG" will end up slightly higher that "GG". Depending on the font, "Q" might end up higher than "O". (for explanation of baseline

difficulty with R expressions in text/legend
hi, i'm trying to prepend some plain (i.e. unevalutated) text to a typographically evaluated R expression in a legend(...) call. here's a working legend(...) call that is close to what i'd like (where x and y are returned from an lm(...) call): legend("topleft", legend = c(bquote(R^2 == .(summary(x)$r.squared)), bquote(R^2 == .(summary(y)$r.squared))), fill =

RedCloth and lang specific hooks
Hi, I use textilize() which is a great way of letting end users edit contents. But the code in RedCloth is quite compact, and doesn''t allow for easily adding correct typographic behaviour depending on the lang of the text. For instance, correct quoting uses round double quotes in english and double carons ? ? in french; the spaces before punctuation can be corrected too. I''d

need settings for the listings package
Hi, I am typesetting R code in TeX using the listings package. I have experimented with various settings for the text, but all look a bit ugly. This might be because I have no typographic experience ;-) I would really appreciate if people sent me the settings they use for the listings package (eg in the \usepackage line, or \lstset, I am thinking about choices for basicstyle, ... etc). I

Firefox3 for CentOS4 -- dependency on evolution28 packages?
I'd been putting off installing the FX3 packages because of some extensions I use that don't have upgrades. [*] However, when FX1.5 crashed on me today I decided to finally go ahead. Fired up yum and I'm told I have to install a slew of evolution28 library packages in order to install the firefox package. Why? I removed evolution from my system for a reason, and I'd just as

Maps, Eastern Europe
Dear all, I would like to employ a European map in a presentation. My idea was to use: library(mapdata) map("worldHires", c("Austria", "Switzerland", "Germany")) where I include all countries from my analysis as a vector of character strings like in the example above. Unfortunately, I was unable to specify the Baltic States (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) or

metapost device in R (again ;-)
Hi, I read the 2000 thread on a MetaPost device in R. If I understand correctly, the main problem with the concept is that R wants the device driver to give back information on the size of strings/labels. To the bet of my knowledge, MetaPost _does_ make it possible to measure the bounding box of text (see section 7.3: Measuring text in the MetaPost manual). For example, one could get the size of

Split String in regex while Keeping Delimiter
Hello List, ? I have a dataset consisting of strings that I want to split while saving the delimiter. ? Some example data: ?leucocyten + gramnegatieve staven +++ grampositieve staven ++? ?leucocyten ? grampositieve coccen +? ? I want to split the strings such that I get the following result: c(?leucocyten +?, ??gramnegatieve staven +++?, ??grampositieve staven ++?) c(?leucocyten ??, ?grampositieve

Does mock_model''s :null_object option work?
Please understand in the following that I am making relatively minor changes to legacy (non-TDD/BDD) code in Substruct and don''t have the time to refactor nicely right now. I''m just trying to get past the untested/un-speced cruft quickly to write the spec for my new code, so I''m looking for expediency over prettiness. I''m specifying before( :each ) do

R-beta: Suggestion for a very minor change to Rd.sty
Dear R gurus and users, for some functions in some of the many packages available for R, with the current definition of \Header given in Rd.sty, the heading bumps into the surrounding words in documentation printed via LaTeX. To alleviate this minor typographical mishap, I'd like to suggest the change to R/doc/manual/Rd.sty included below as a context diff. With this minor diff applied, the

Split-plot model
How do I set up my model equation in aov to analyze a split-plot design? I have two factors (CO2 and NITROGEN), each with two levels (high and ambient). CO2 is my whole-plot factor with three replicates for each level (i.e., 6 rooms total). Is this syntax below correct? summary(aov(response ~ ROOM + CO2*NITROGEN + Error(ROOM/CO2)))
