Why some times R-halts?
Hello everyone. I have written a small function that returns a 3*n array where n is typicall between 5-55. I issued in R shweights<-shadowing_weights(x,xr) and I got the result in less that one sec. then I tried to see what is inside the shweights array and thus I issued the edit(shweights) which 10 mins right now is busy and got no reply yet back. As I am using rkward I tried from gu...

special question on regression
...dent variables. The dependent variable is of metric nature (in my case meters in a range from around 0.5-10000 m). The first independent is also metric (in mm ranging from 50-700 mm) and it is assumed to be in a linear relation with the dependend one. So that is not a problem at all to do a typicall linear regression on that. No there is the second independent variable. This is also of metric nature and gives information on time (ranging from 1 day to 800 days) but here sometimes is this variable not exactly clear, I know for example a range (1-2 days) or less than x days etc. So my dat...

Memory usage in prcomp
Hi All: I am running prcomp on a very large array, roughly [500000, 3650]. The array itself is 16GB. I am running on a Unix machine and am running ?top? at the same time and am quite surprised to see that the application memory usage is 76GB. I have the ?tol? set very high (.8) so that it should only pull out a few components. I am surprised at this memory usage because prcomp uses the SVD

xfs and centosplus kernel
I read that XFS has problems with 4K Stack size for Linux on 32-bit systems. How did we address this in the centosplus kernel? Since what release of CentOS was this problem resolved? Is there a quick way to know what size the Linux stack is configured to be in a system's that's running? Thanks for your help. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...

Huber-white cluster s.e. after optim?
I've used optim to analyze some data I have with good results, but need to correct the var-cov matrix for possible effects of clustering of observations (respondents) in small groups (non-independence). Is there any function to adjust the matrix? I heard some time ago that the vcovHC function would have a cluster capability added to it, but I don't see that in my fairly recent version.

Rails production version not accessible from other machines
Hi, I just deployed my first rails application in production mode using Capistrano and mongrel clusters. Here are the lines in my mongrel_cluster.yml file. cwd: /myrailsdeploymath/current log_file: log/mongrel.log port: "8000" environment: production address: myserver.mydomain.org id_file: tmp/pids/mongrel.pid servers: 3 My development and production machine are the same. ssh host keys on cloned virtual machines
...with bulky environments where infrastructure as code is vital. Spending the time to ensure individualized hostkeys, when there's a significant chance of IP re-use and conflicting host keys to clean up, is... well it's time better spent elsewhere. It's why tools like "ansible" typicall disable the known_hosts file at run time with just the ssh_config settings I mentioned. They don't have the time to manually validate SSH host key conflicts when deploying new servers. > >It's also a great way to stretch > >our billable hours with very familiar tasks which only...

Asterisk hangs up call after 20s
Hello I have an Asterisk 1.4 server and two XLite softphones, where Asterisk and the local XLite phone are located in a LAN behind a NAT router, and the remote XLite phone is located elsewhere on the Net behind its own NAT router: http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/3749/asterisknat.png I'm having the following issue: When the _local_ XLite calls out the remote XLite, everything works fine;

2.6.33 high cpu usage
With the ATI bug I was hitting earlier fixed, only my btrfs partition continues to show high cpu usage for some operations. Rsync, git pull, git checkout and svn up are typicall operations which trigger the high cpu usage. As an example, this perf report is from using git checkout to change to a new branch; the change needed to checkout 208 files out of about 1600 total files. du(1) reports that the checkout is about 14 megs; the alternates for that tree have about 60 me...

Xen credit scheduler question
Hi all (and Mr. Dunlap in particular), I have a question about the credit (and ultimately credit2) scheduler that I hope you can help me with. I have read the white paper "Scheduler development update" and as much material on the credit scheduler as I can find, but I am still not completely clear on how I should think about the cap. Example scenario: Server hardware: 2

CentOS or other Linux Internet Router/Gateway
Hi Everyone, I've got kids who are growing older and I want to build a Linux box to filter Internet access. I've got six computers on the Internet, plus the laptops -- most run Windows. I'm not sure if it's called a router or gateway or...? I don't mind doing the leg work, I just don't know where to start. I'm pretty sure I'm *not* looking for a web server (though
