Strange kernel message w/ Promise TX4
Greetings, I am running Xen-3.0.2-3, with host OS kernel version 2.6.16.13-xen0. The system is a AMD Athlon XP running Debian/Etch. I have 3 SATA disks plugged into a Promise TX4 SATA controller. The disks are RAIDed using Linux md with LVM wrapped around the md''s for volume management. I currently am running 3 domUs, each with LVM backed vbd''s. This server has been up for nearly a month. I am getting these types of kernel messages: ata4: status=0x50...

botched RAID, now e2fsck or what?
Hi all, Somehow I managed to mess with a RAID array containing an ext3 partition. Parenthesis, if it matters: I disconnected physically a drive while the array was online. Next thing, I lost the right order of the drives in the array. While trying to re-create it, I overwrote the raid superblocks. Luckily, the array was RAID5 degraded, so whenever I re-created it, it didn't go into sync;

CentOS 5.1 Core 2 Duo Install freezes
...ng on my BIOS settings. Always after verifying dependencies, and typically during the disk format process, the installation freezes. I get a "kernel panic - not syncing" in text mode. Single disks, dual disks, LVM, no-LVM, software RAID, even when disks are on a Promise SATA300-TX4. The single-core Celeron processors work fine, but none of the dual core processors work. I'm using 5 sets of hardware, so bad hardware is unlikely. I'm stumped. Anyone out there with similar problems and/or workarounds? Any ideas? -Ken

PCI SATA Controller Recommendations?
Hello fellow listers... I'd like to get some recommendations on a good SATA controller for use with CentOS 5.x. It should be PCI, bootable, have 4 SATA ports, have native support (no crap proprietary or manually compiled drivers), and possibly hot swap support. Any ideas? There are plenty of PCI-X and PCIe controllers that I think would work but the use for this card is in a smaller 1U

Centos for entry level server : Motherboard?
I've been burned by Sata not working on an Asus motherboard (nVidia / nForce) and need to select something that will work for a fairly light duty web/mail/sql server. How do I go about finding out if a specific motherboard will work with sata software raid and Centos 4.4 (or 5.x when it's settled down). Cheers; Alex V. -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous

smbd pids
just noticed the following problem.. after running samba 302rc1(as pdc) for a few day's. old SMBD pid's are left in the procces tree.. eating memory and cpu time, causing linux to overload and not function annymore. after stopping samba, the smbd pid's will stay. stopping samba the 2nd time will do the trick, they finaly disapear... so you have to stop samba twice.. ?? don't

Hello, I'm looking for a recomendation for a SATA controlers. In the range of 4-8 ports, either PCI or PCIe (for desktop use) and/or PCI-X, PCIe (for server use). Is there a diferent way to do this?
Hi, I started creating a small class but I'm courious about how it is working. To create a instance of my class "Partri" I write this at Rgui: x <- new("Partri", name="Gilvan") and to change the slot "name" of this instance, I write: setName(x, newname="Justino") It is not working, because when I type "x" at Rgui, it shows

Import zpool from FreeBSD in OpenSolaris
I want to import my zpool''s from FreeBSD 8.0 in OpenSolaris 2009.06. After reading the few posts (links below) I was able to find on the subject, it seems like it there is a differences between FreeBSD and Solaris. FreeBSD operates on directly on the disk and Solaris creates a partion and uses that... is that right? Is it impossible for OpenSolaris to use zpool''s from FreeBSD?

Promise raid cards
Hello. I would like to know if promise RAID cards are compatible with CentOS / RHEL ? I have seen that only SATA is supported on the RHEL hardware compatibility list. The other ATA raid cards seems not to be compatible. They give source code and promise grants compatibility with RedHat 8 and 9 but not RHEL. I would like to know if somebody tried a ATA raid card like Fasttrack TX2000, SX4000,
