No convergence using ADAPT
I am trying calculate a probability using numerical integration. The first program I ran spit out an answer in a very short time. The program is below: ## START PROGRAM trial <- function(input) { pmvnorm(lower = c(0,0), upper = c(2, 2), mean = input, sigma = matrix(c(.1, 0, 0, .1), nrow = 2, ncol = 2, byrow = FALSE)) } require(mvtnorm) require(adapt) bottomB <- -5*sqrt(.1) topB <-

Simulation of a particular type of population
Does anyone have any R code or suggestions on how to generate a population that follows a Neyman-Scott process? More specifically, I'd like to randomly generate both the parents and the children from Poisson distributions and the children locations from a bivariate normal onto an N by N grid. If the locations spill over outside the grid, then I'd like to reflect those locations back into

Solution to "Can anyone help me reproduce this SAS Mixed output??"
To those who might be interested -- following is the solution to my previous post regarding reproducing output from SAS Proc Mixed for a two-factor crossed random effects ANOVA model. I am graciously endebted to the kind replys from two statisticians for this solution whose names I will refrain from mentioning for the sake of privacy. I hope this helps someone?! -- Phil Turk > hw7 <-

How do I edit the x-axis on a time series plot?
I am merely trying to reproduce Figure 1.2 of Chris Chatfield's 6th edition of his The Analysis of Time Series: An Introduction (page 2). The S-PLUS code is on pages 305-306. I am almost there but I am having a heck of a time trying to modify and change the x-axis per the book. The book shows the x-axis with 10 tick marks, correctly positioned, and labeled "Jan 53", ...,

Centos 7, ATI card, 30" monitor
Well, I got my user back to being able to use his system, but I've still got one issue: it's running on the VESA driver - there is *no* Catalyst build for this monitor, for CentOS 7. From a lot of googling, nothing's been done since the summer of '14 (lspci reports it as a FirePro V3900). Any thoughts, or pointers, as to if/how I can get X - he's running KDE - to see the full

Two brief questions concerning sapply. Can anyone please help?!
To anyone who can help: I have two brief questions concerning sapply. Following below is the code for my example. The two problems are described at the end of the code: site <- rep(2:6, each = 12) tillage <- rep(c(1,-1), each = 6, times = 5) carbon <- c(18.23, 16.06, 17.81, 16.07, 17.26, 17.08, 14.92, 15.88, 12.11, 14.23, 16.99, 13.57, 20.34, 20.3,

Creating a sequence from two samples with several constraints (frequency and repeats)
I'm attempting to create a sequence for an experiment and am hoping I can use R to create it. It has several constraints: (1) It is made up of two sequences (red and green) that have 4 different repeating triplets (e.g. T1=ABC T2=DEF T3=GHI JKL) (2) Each sequence has the following constraints: (a) there cannot be repeating triplets (e.g. T1 T1), (b) there cannot be repeating triplet pairs

Hangup Detection Problem In Turkey
Hi, Although zonedata.c contains ITU E.180 recommendations for Turkey, we are still experiencing unrecognized hangups from Turk Telekom PSTN lines when callers hangup. Turk Telekom does *not* provide supervised disconnects on analog PSTN, and the tone we receive we when caller hangs up is similar to busy, with three short beeps, followed by one long beep, which keeps repeating. We've

dual boot windows
Hi guys, I''m new to Xen - in fact I haven''t installed it yet - wanted to find out a bit more before I test the waters. Here''s what I want to do: 1. I''m getting a new Intel Core duo laptop within a couple of days. I believe the core duo chips have Vanderpool technology so it shouldn''t be a problem getting Xen to run windows unmodified - is this

question regarding variance components
I am using a two-factor ANOVA model with random factor effects including the interaction, i.e. the factors are crossed. I would like to be able to generate all four variance components along with approximate confidence intervals using the NLME package. However, I do not know how to specify the random option because of two problems. First, I do not know how to enter the interaction term into the

I have one 120 channels isdn pri digium card. I worked fine for the last 3 months. There was a power outage, and after the server came up and isdn modem from the telecom, zaptel can't detect connection (alarms are red). Currently I can't test with another card to be sure, but is it possible that the power outage burned the card somehow? UPS was connected, but without controll cable, so

Voicemail to Text Transcription(was: Re: [asterisk-dev] Voicemailto text translation)
(This subthread is more appropriate to -users than to -dev, so it is crossposted only to mark its transition. Please reply on the -user list only.) What are the cheapest prices for (humans) transcribing voicemail to text as a service? The absolute cheapest, regardless of (known) quality - the quality only has to compete with (cheaper) automated transcription, which is abysmal quality. On Wed,

Can anyone help me reproduce this SAS Mixed output??
I asked this before and I am going to try again in more applied terms. I am trying to use R to extract variance components for a two-factor random effects model with both factors crossed. It would also be nice to generate some confidence intervals as well. For example, a data set using SAS Proc Mixed is below followed by the four variance component estimates and the respective confidence
